Screen name . . . where'd you get it?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

pari joooooooooon.

mota is the first four letters of my last name and something i enjoy smoking recreationally. i am going to be a dr.

p.s. i started this same thread like 6 months ago. what am i still doing here?

heh, mine came, just like browniegirl and kirexhana, during some weird random moment in 6th grade...i think i was high: i stuck patty (my name) together with pattaya (this city in thailand where my mom bought me a shirt) and platypus (what my friends and I were comparing to Julia Roberts)...totally bizarre, i know, but i'm actually pretty proud of it. it was pretty much my one and only truly creative moment!

it's pronounced "puh-TIE-a-pus," by the way...with a slight accent on the "pus"...

omg, i'm so embarassed to say this but 😳 ... sixth grade, pokemon was really really big. "kireihana" was this flowery looking one that i thought was adorable and my name is rex so i inserted it and made => "kirexhana". alright, go ahead an dispense with the gay jokes, esp you flop, don't let me down 😛 .

WAIT --- Pokemon was gay?!

(JK-- I like your avatar and I alway enjoy reading your posts K-rex.)

So, I had been lurking on SDN for several weeks before I saw a post I wanted to reply to. Totally by coincidence, earlier that same day I had just been rejected by some med school I didn't really want to go to anyway, like U of Michigan or something. I showed my wife the rejection letter and started singing, "I'm too sexy for this school, too sexy for this shirt, so sexy it hurts!"

Couple hours later I'm logging into SDN for the first time and that's the first thing I think of for a screen name. The rest, as they say, was history.

My screenname comes from my idol, Thomas Hassler. He was a German soccer player who played 100+ times for the German national team and was on the team that won Wold Cup 1990 and Euro 1996. He is retired now, but he remains my idol.

Rather boring because I'm not creative, but my name is an acronym for my four children's names. Questionably the apostrophe is in the wrong place, but that was how it looked best.

A spider interrupted my registration. 😳

I saw it crossing the floor and put a glass over it. Took me a few minutes to calm down after I took it outside (they give me the creeps, but hey...)

Anyway, when I sat back down, I wrote the obvious.

Regret it now, but oh, well. 🙄

that's a really cute story! i like the name. my nickname is mel, and the rest is pretty evident.

I laugh a lot. If you know me (in real life), you can testify to this.

"Trinidad is my land and of it I am proud and glad" (old time calypso)

People probably go "huh?" when they see my long unpronouncable screen name - But any Trinidadian aka "trini" would know I am a "trini to the bone".
That's a Trinidadian slang that means someone is proud to be a Trinidadian 😉

My screenname reflects the specialty that I intend to pursue (neurosurgery).
However, "neurosurgeon" was taken so I opted for the H4x0r (hacker) spelling.

Therefore, 3=e, 0=o, 5=s, 9=g, 3=e, etc.

In fact, as an aside, you can view the google search page in H4x0r here:
http://www.google.com/intl/xx-hacker/

Did I mention that I'm in love with neurosurgery?

If mine's not insanely obvious, you haven't read enough Jane Austen... 😉

The name has nothing to do with the picture, obviously. Elizabeth, the main character in Pride & Prejudice (who ends up living happily ever after at Pemberley), and Carter from the TV show SG1 are both people I admire. So I shamelessly stole the estate name of one and the image of the other.

I think it's hilarious that people reply to me as "chan"..

I'm asian indian. My screen name is a combo of the 1st 3 letters of my husband's name, the 1st 3 letters ofmy name, and our last name... in that order

Yeah, it seems to be the norm when truncating names to use the first part. You should have named yourself "jurchanban." More fun to say too.

My screen name comes from the fact that I bleed Maize & Blue...It has nothing to do with X-Men (although I'd take Hugh Jackman anyday).

Oh, and I (usually) act like a lady. Until something pisses me off. Then the claws come out. Just like Wolverine. :meanie:

OK, I can't resist.

Humuhumu is Hawaiian for triggerfish; humuhumunukunukuapua'a is the unofficial state fish of Hawaii.

Whenever I think about humuhumu in its natural habitat, I just feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

THAT'S where it's from! i 😍 the book and movie, and this thread too, it's so interesting where people get their names.

Lurking on the many waitlist threads and just too frustrated to think of anything except being waitlisted everywhere I go.

No less classic for that. One of my favorites screen names on SDN!
Awwww 😍

About 5 years ago, I needed a last name for my character in an online game (I played a gnome in EQ1). Everything "catchy" was rejected, until I came up with a saying that several friends from New England had used in the past -- "wicked good," and melded it together to become Wickedgood.

I liked it so much that I use the handle for every forum I'm a member of. My gnome on WoW is named Wicked. Most of my friends either call me Wickedgood or Wicked now.

Funny enough, I'm originally from TX. I started using the hande back when I was living in VA - but I finally ended up here in CT, where "wicked good" is a normal term.

I totally agree! I love the corny medical puns they use. I've been trying to tell people about this movie but can never remember the movie title. thank you thank you thank you!

I could go on all day with quotes:

"You're about to experience the cutting edge of medicine."
"Have a heart."
"I know, it sucks."
"If you think that's bad, wait till you get my bill."
"He should have kept his hands to himself."
"You should have worn protection."
"I haven't discharged you yet."
"Time to do what doctors do best."
And then my sig.

Haha, I'm not as creative as some of you. Here's my screen name story:

baylor (because I go to Baylor, duh!)
med (because "I want to be a doctor to help people", duh)

And so a mastername was born.

Well, after 4 semesters of Ancient Greek, I was damn well going to get some use out of it.

It means, literally, "Stand up" (which is what I need to do more of) but it's also the word that gets translated as "Resurrection" in the NT.

We get pretty good thunderstorms in my hometown, and my parents have this great covered porch that I like to sit on during storms so I can watch them and "ooh" and "ahh" at the lightening. I tried that last week when it was hailing and there was a tornado warning, and my mother literally dragged me inside. She seemed to think it was dangerous. ??? Anyway, the proper spelling was taken at whichever site it was that I first used the name, so I spell it "thundrstorm."

My screen name has a kind of um, undertone to it.

I used to work for Starbucks, from 96-00, and my first manager's name was Becky, a high energy, outgoing, humorous lesbian. She was rad, and we used to joke around a lot. She made a lot of jokes about, well, everything. If, um, you know the term "flicking the bean," then you can kind of see the origins of my screen name. She was making some wisecrack about it, flicked a coffee bean at me and my friend Regina screams out, "Nikibean!!!" and they all started calling me that.
I adopted it as a screen name due to it's reference to caffeine addiction, but it's got some uh, other origins. Excuse me as I blush. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm NOT going to explain it. Figure it out.

Our good friend urbandictionary.com tells me that I'm correct in my assumption about what "flicking the bean" means.

I'd never heard that one before. I like it!

Hahaha these two sentences are hilarious

Wow look at Margaret go! She can really flick the bean

damn look at that she's flicking her bean thats the best thing i've ever seen

the second definition is also pretty funny...and gross. Just emailed it to my girlfriend :meanie:

At the very least, it seems more anatomically relevant than an expression such as "choking the monkey."

...never understood that one.

My roomates/best friends are/were huge potheads. All they did was sit around, smoke and play x-box. Thus, the fact that I was doing all of the volunteering/research necessary for any pre-med made me "the hero" in their eyes. Of course there are more "hero-worthy" people on SDN, but that's what my friends call me, hence, the membername.

Er, I thought it was "spanking the monkey" and "choking the chicken."
😀

Anyway, mine is so uncreative b/c I created it after too much application/MCAT burnout. Pretty easy-- First Day of the Rest of My Life
But, oddly appropriate since I'd just gotten my first acceptance and it was like a cortisol laxative (no, not like a real laxative-- ew, espeically after that 3rd definition of flicking the bean!!).

I worked in a Chinese restaurant in undergrad. The manager moved here from China (formerly in the Chinese Opera, but that's for another story about unfair kareoke contests). He started every sentence, good or bad, with "goddamnit baby" such as

"Goddamnit baby, table 4 needs more water" or
"Goddamnit baby, you are doing a good job"

So whenever my friends and I would talk about anything we would use "goddamnit baby" to start the converstation. As a matter of fact, I just called an old grad school friend of mine who I hadn't talked to in a while. She must have seen my number pop up and when she answered she said "goddmanit baby, how have you been?"

Well I think mine is pretty obvious...I play the clarinet, I hang out with the Clarinet studio (even though I am not a music major), and of course I have been in band since the 5th grade. Therefore, ClarinetGeek!

Ooooh that's pretty!!

Truth be told, I am a ghost-human hybrid 😱

I'm the proud father of a beautiful 85 lb Rotweiller-mix named Paige. My "handle" is but one of her infinite number of nicknames. She's a pretty girl indeed.

it was how I was described to a girl by a friend who was setting us up, date went poorly, name stuck-and it beats my other nicknames-full bowl and double flush- My friends and I revel in sophomoric humour

Your bike looks HOT - it reminds me of my old Specialized Allez (that my rotten ex sold). Now I must go cry because I miss my bike, and cycling in general 🙁

Mine is my screenname... I created it in ninth grade, when everyone was "angel" or "princess", so I became "diosa" which means goddess in Spanish. Now I'm too lazy and uncreative to change it. Although it is slightly embarrassing to still have it as a name as a 23 year old.

My screen name ... is my name. 😉

Yeah, I'm not very creative. 🙄

91-Bravo is the Army military occupational specialty (MOS) designation for a combat medic. They changed it a couple years ago to 91-Whisky. But I'm old-school. What can I say....
