I am at a cross roads and need the opinion of people who may have been there before. I applied for and got a medical scribe gig, however, it is full time, which means I would have to quit my current job to do it. It pays very little though and My current job covers all my bills.
How much will it positively impact my application to have a full time medical scribing job for a few years on my resume? Is it worth quitting my job over or will shadowing work just as well? I obviously work full time and go to school as well so I have limited time to shadow. Is it wise to do the scribing as my full time job instead of sporadic shadowing?

Just shadow. Scribing's cool if you're a typical pre-med but if you have a job that has some real responsibility, and you're showing that you are doing shadowing to know what you're getting into on top of that, you should be good. I did very little shadowing and it wasn't even a separate section in my AMCAS -- just a reference within another section. (But probably it should be a section of its own if you do enough.)

Im in the same boat but I'm only making around ~32k...I still haven't been able to bring myself to take a job making 9-10/hr (18-20k). However I will say that if it didn't hurt me financially, I would do it. Its a far bigger cut for you, so you have to think about having enough money to finish undergrad at least on that amount of money.

For me personally it would be extremely difficult, so I am just doing absolutely everything I can otherwise to build a good application. As a non trad, career changers are going to be common, and I would bet many of them don't work in healthcare already.

I don't know how old you are or what you do for a living, but heres a link to my thread with a similar question http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/how-do-i-make-up-for-not-doing-much-since-hs.1169974/
