The final drop date being the last day to Withdraw without receiving a Pass/Fail W, or the last day in the Drop/Add period?

A withdrawal will show up on your transcript as a W with no grade if you withdraw within the right period which is usually halfway through a semester. The Drop/Add period usually ends after a week and a half. A Added or Dropped class does not show up on your transcript.

basically just get a copy of your transcript - if there is a W under the grade - its a withdrawal...if there isn't anything - its nothing

I still need help clarifying whether the courses I took were Withdrawal courses according to AMCAS. This is how the system works at my university.

Regular add/cancel period
- first 2 weeks of classes
- 100% course refund

Cancel period
- between first 2 weeks and 6 weeks of classes
- university transcripts do not show Withdrawal but less than 100% course refund
- I dropped the course in this period

Final cancel date
- after 6 weeks of classes
- university transcripts show Withdrawal

So...???

From what I understand you put the course as a withdrawl if it shows up on your transcript as a W by it for withdrawl. If you drop the course and it does not show up on your transcript its as if you never took the class and you shouldn't need to list it. AMCAS goes by your official transcript to verify grades. So I would get a copy of your transcript and use that as your guide. If a class does not show up on your transcript and you dropped it, don't list it.

I believe you put whats on the transcript, if there is no W on the transcript then dont put it.

I withdrew from Chem 2 my freshman year; I have a 'W' on my transcript. I retook the course that following summer at a community college back home (I'm an out of state student) and made a B. On the AMCAS application, will the 'B' be calculated into my science and overall GPA, or will it be ignored? Also, do I need to list the grade I made that summer?

If there is a W on your transcript, you HAVE to report that course as a W. If you send a transcript from your undergraduate institution (all that you attended) and you have grades that you have not listed on your application, you won't get verified which delays your application tremendously.

In the above case, your transcripts are going to show a withdrawal and a retake at another institution with a grade of "B". The W does not figure into your uGPA calculation but it is there and will be evaluated as a withdrawal. You might get asked about why you withdrew from your home institution especially since second semester of General Chemistry is a pre-med pre-req and why you chose to take that course at a community college instead of taking it at your home college. Other than that, unless you have a string of withdrawals that can't be explained by catastrophic illness, you may incur some liability with that withdrawal. (I am just saying be prepared to explain your choices here).

List every course that you have taken at every institution that you have attended post secondary school that has any grade on your transcript. If you dropped (withdrew within the "drop" period), no grade will appear on your transcript. If a W is there, you didn't "drop", you "withdrew" and those count.

Thanks I understand I'd have to list the course regardless and do know the difference between a drop & a withdrawal.
I am wondering if the 'B' from another institution will be factored into my science GPA for the AMCAS?

Restarting an old thread -

I talked to a college counselor today, and this is what he said for withdrawals after the deadline for transcript notation.

"There is no W on the transcript. Our school does not give W's. However, there is a memorandum that says the class was dropped week X."

So, the class looks like

Introductory Physics [no grade here]
Course dropped week 8

There is no W. There is no grade assigned. But it is listed as a memorandum.

From my understanding, "memoranda" don't go on AMCAS right? I asked him if he thinks I should put it on AMCAS. He said "no, because you never got a grade for the class. Some schools will actually assign a grade of W, but we don't do that."

What do you think?
