SDN Fairgrounds - 10th Annual Noob WW Game

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Look there is no bullying needed, I am the resident Spooktober queen and have been meaning to run a Halloween game since 2023
That's like... 2 years. I feel like that isn't a long time

Anyone who has ever DM'd on D&D ( @apoptosis09 ) or has done any other game design knows how much effort goes into making a game like this!

Spurs pls!!!!

You know what, no, you're right, there are other designs I've had kicking around for way longer. Pretty sure my Dark Tower game has been on the list since at least 2017 and I just can never seem to get the timing right to get exactly 19 players.

So for each of the three of us, who are we most like in our family tree? 😉
my tree is not big. My manator did not actually have one. So crayola claims him as one of her orphans.

So I think beans is most like me.
I gotta say you’re most like your step dad genny
And vampy is most like stagg

Hmmm yes that feels right

Okay, Halloween/spooky themed game will not be the next one because I want more time to work on it, and I can't run it in October because I also host movie nights and that would just be too much all at once.

So start date currently planned for November 1st!

That's perfect!

I quite liked Katie’s first-timer play as a spectator. Perhaps it wasn’t “perfect” (nobody is). But I believe I may have observed compelling evidence that she possesses, nay, she got, that dawg in her.
Seconded!

Sometimes you have to be knee deep in an ISO to go "**** **** ***** I'M WRONG AREN'T I"
Sometimes, you just gotta wake up the next morning, read over what you said before, and confidently go "This is bunk."

I personally like to do it to myself in the middle of an ISO, I've had ones where I was CONVINCED and then halfway through was like "you know what, I don't agree with myself anymore, but Imma post this anyway so you can all see my thought process for the last 4 hours"

In my view, that’s generally the point of a large-scale analysis like an ISO review. If we are exploratory, we assess content with better balance. Look at the posts. Think about the posts. Write about the posts. This leads to natural conclusions and gives others a bird’s eye view of your own brain. Let them see your brain. It’s a good brain.

If we try to be confirmatory with such analyses, we are inviting bias by definition. “I’m going to share why my preconceptions of this player are true.” Confirmation bias erupts upon the page, it’s very icky, others can smell it, it smells bad, and they are left unconvinced. And deep down, you are also unconvinced. Sorry, detective. I’m sure it was fun, but that’s not how we tend to solve crimes in this court of law.

That's actually one of the most interesting parts of going back through my games (when I used to play, not games I modded) - there's a distinct evolutionary shift in my ISOs from confbiasing myself to much more "stream of consciousness" style where I would grab posts and then muse over them

in a spoiler after SOMEONE complained about how long my posts were and said they didn't read them
I won't name the person.
It was Dubz.

with a tl;dr at the top with my main conclusions (even if sometimes my main conclusion was "???????? idk???"

Not shockingly, I became a much better villager when I did the latter. Not shockingly, they also took a lot more time to do and weren't a very time-efficient way to play.

rae is my only tee who has done ISOs that I can remember (maybe stoat did when she wasn't wildly fakeclaiming red checks on people?), so I'm not sure if any of my kids have gone through or will go through the same progression.

For any nooblets who want to get into the ISO business: my posts in kd's Pirates game are a really great example of how to do ISOs really terribly and put a lot of effort into the process, and you are welcome to reference them as a "don't ever do it like this"

a man in a suit says great example of a horrible idea in front of plaques on a wall

In contrast, I did some actual good ones in CYO II and Dubz and Sporty's WWedding game hmmyes

Let it be known that it is actually true that we have never put an alpha wolf in a noob game...but we have put multiple converts and cults and 3ps with exclusive wincons in there
You all are next level w these game mechanics!! While I was short-lived in the game, the Ghost Train was a blast to read thru while we speculated and watched.
