Sdsu mph 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, ive got an admit from SDSU as well. Wanted to ask all you people going to SDSU the same question posted above!

I currently attend SDSU, so I'll chime in briefly. Among other reasons, my top 2:

1. The tuition is very affordable.
2. I'm from Southern California and wanted to stay in the area. (Pay in-state tuition too.)

And I didn't learn much about SD until I moved there, but it's a very interesting county for public health. There are a lot of immigrants (of course), refugees, veterans, etc. What are your concentrations?

My concentration is epidemiology. Can you share some of the shortcomings you think SDSU's MPH program has? Thanks!

Hi I was just wondering when you guys put in your ap for sdsu mph program and when you heard back
Thanks!

I submitted my SOPHAS app on 2/15 and SOPHAS approved/mailed in on 3/20, but I haven't heard back yet. How about you?

I submitted my SOPHAS app in November, and it was mailed early December. I received an acceptance letter in the mail from SDSU around 03/20, and it was dated 03/15. I was asked to mail in a postcard that they attached to the letter in order to accept their offer. However, my online admission status page has not been updated yet.. which I find weird. My concentration is Epi. Hope that helps!

I'm not too familiar with the Epi division, so I can't give you specifics. Epi is one of the larger concentrations though (in terms of students). Overall, however, the school of public health is not very big. Depending on what you want, that may be a positive or negative. But there are not a lot of faculty members. It is not the richest school either. The buildings are old and the program has limited resources. Few GA/TA positions are available; same goes for scholarships, travel grants, etc. On the other hand, the program doesn't cost that much, so I guess you get what you pay for.

That said, I have enjoyed my experience. There are a lot of opportunities if you seek them out, and the faculty have been very supportive. My division (health management) holds professional development events for us as well. Like this past Monday, we had Mock Interviews. The program invited some 15-20 CEOs, COOs, directors, etc. to help us practice our interviewing skills. Sometimes we have distinguished speakers, etc. as well. I'm not sure what the equivalents are for the Epi division.

Hi, just thought I'd reply with what my time frame has been. I submitted my SOPHAS application on February 5th and it was mailed out on February 28th. I'm from out of state (Ohio) and I just received an acceptance letter in the mail yesterday dated from April 10th.

I'm not sure if anyone will respond to this post, considering all of you are in MPH Programs as of now....but thought I'd give it a shot anyways!

I am currently applying to MPH programs for fall 201, and SDSU is high on my list being a California native..
With that said, I was hoping current students could tell me there stats (gpa, gre, etc), so I can get an idea of those accepted last year.
I'm pretty nervous because my GRE scores weren't very good... but I hope my GPA of 3.7 will help.

Let me know. I'd appreciate any helpful advice 🙂

Which MPH program at SDSU? I met 2 people on this forum back in 2012, became friends (one of them is my housemate now ) and have been in the SDSU MPH program since Fall 2012. Your GPA is really good but what did you study? Experience? Also, how bad were your GRE scores exactly; percentile-wise? >.< I went to UCR pre med and didn't so well (lazy) GPA 3.017 GRE were decent but I was accepted haha. Feel free to PM if you have questions/concerns. Good luck!

Hi everyone!

On the topic of SDSU - hopefully some can answer this question!!

Do you have to send GREs and official transcripts to SDSU and to SOPHAS? I sent GREs using code 4902... but now I am looking at SDSU application and it says it is missing these two.

Does SOPHAS forward these or do we need to send them again?

Thanks so much!!

I believe you need to send them to both SDSU (code 4682) and SOPHAS: http://publichealth.sdsu.edu/programs/graduate/mph/epidemiology/application/

That's what I did last month and now they're marked as received 🙂
Good luck!
