Ok so I applied last year and was put on waiting list at NJ, Stony Brook, Buffalo and NYU (had inteviews in january). This time around, I am again waitlisted for Buffalo and it seems the trend has started to contnue. I still havent received interview invites from 9 other schools I applied ( AADSAS was sent to schools early October). So to prepare for the worst I am thinking of taking 4 science classes to boost my GPA. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

GPA 3.3. Sci 3.2
DAT 19/17
2 years dental assistant, Published a study in Journal, 1 year Oral surgery Dept volunteer in Hospital,

I just can't believe that with your stats and DAT, you got only one interview. I am so shocked. I can't believe how competitive it is to get accepted to dental schools. hate it.

i second that statement!

This is my second time applying too. Don't lose hope. I am sure we will get in somewhere. I am going to keep trying until I get in. If I don't get in this year I think I am going to do a Masters.

you applied to 10 schools with a 3.3 and a 19 and 2 years experience and didn't get in? 😕 how early/late did you apply? is there something else in your application that could be detrimental to your progress? i feel like i'm not seeing something here... i mean in the interview packets that i got from several schools, they stated their average incoming gpa was like a 3.2 and a 17.. maybe you're choosing the wrong schools to apply to? oh well, keep trying and go ahead and take that semester of science classes and do well in them! best of luck!

😡

Second timer as well!! GPA 3.2, DAT 19/18, highest recommendations, superb other things..........and NO WORD. Had MUSC intv Nov5th, and will go to UT-Mem Feb 4th.

Looks like they really care about GPA huh?

i have a masters in biochemistry w/ 22/22/21 DAT
already got rejected from upenn, uop, colorado, nova(w/interview), maryland, marquette, usc(w/interview)...
i dont think they care for that M.S.

😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 CRAZY! With those stats, regardless of your GPA you should have no problem with an acceptance. You are simply slipping through the system's fingers... somehow!??!!?? Good luck to you cause you sure as hell belong in dental school. Apply to UNLV! They have a lot of out of state spots and they love MS. That is what the admissions dean told me. Just a hint for a worst case scenario.

Buddy I'm sorry but I don't buy that. What's your GPA like? 2.0? You are getting everyone frustrated on this thread(except those people accepeted)! 😱

3.1cumulative, 3.08 science 2.9 undergrad, 3.86 grad, 108 hrs of volunteer in dental office...
i dont mean to frustrate anyone, i just think my situation is a reality of how a MS degree doesn't mean much to most schools, or not sufficient to overcome low gpa

Oh man, my DAT score is really close to you, 23 22 20 while GPA is sorta higher, AADSAS is 6000, I feel hopless now cuz nothing happens nowhere. I'd admit that after Dec1st is the real "heating" period. Amen!

you should get interviews at least...perhaps you'll be able to charm them at the interview...
i guess my interviews didn't help my cause either

Dyarhea, when did you apply?

This is my second cycle as well...very frustrating. My DATs are nowhere near any of you guys (18/17/16). I have a 3.1 overall and 3.4 science. Started an MS at local university in the fall and will complete 26+ hrs of grad classes by May (max allowed). I do know marquette doesnt look too highly on MS, but its due to the fact that if you are in a more research based program you could end up not taking many classes. I tried pleading my case and ultimately went with the MS b/c more schools that not endorsed it. I am in a (practically) all didatic program with very little research (none so far).

About worrying...I have talked to a few D1s at various schools recently and they tell me not to worry even though it is December 1. I know people who havent gotten interviews until second semester and got into nearly all the schools they applied to (even ones they "werent supposed to get into"). The cycle runs until the first day of class in fall...lets try to all chill. Breath in breath out. Not to contradict myself, but today I found out that I wasnt waitlisted per-se, but I was spots away from an alternate spot at Indiana. If anyone knows Perfect, its exactly his situation from last year....still makes me nervous. I dont know whats going to happen. Anyway, lets try to remain positive. Good luck to everybody

I am still doubting though, xxdakinexx has a even lower undergrad GPA than you and it looks like he/she has a much better time than you. I don't know what's going on in this world but dude, don't be discouraged. I'm sure you will get in somewhere with those amazing stats. 😉 😉 😉
