So tomorrow at 0230(honolulu time) I will be applying to my 14 med schools, of which USHS is my #1 pick.

I got a 34S MCAT, a 3.97 GPA, 13 extra curriculars including ER volunterring, Shadowing ER Docs and volunteerin and being a board member of a disabled student cultural center, so I think its safe to say I will be getting a secondary.

I would love to get a leg up on the competition by writing my secondaries for USUHS now and so I could send them within a day or two of recieving the notification from the school, (assuming that I need to modify them).

Could anyone who has gone to USUHS please help me out by telling me what the secondary essay questions where, (as many as you can remember).

I figure that most secondaries from most schools are similar so this will also help me with my other schools.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sincerely,
Adam A. Galas
Future Internist for the US Navy Medical Corp.

Woah, first of all, calm down. You are exceedingly intense. Second, someone mentioned that USUHS posted the secondary app on their website early this year; I'd try browsing through to find it.

But if you insist, here is the prompt from last year:

FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS: This form is primarily intended as your instrument to tell the Committee in Admissions about your specific interest in USUHS for your medical education and to explain your motivation for military medicine and something about your experience or familiarity with the military services. In addition, you may expand your AMCAS statement and tell us whatever you would like the Committee to know about you. Be creative and concise in your comments. Please type double-spaced and do not exceed the space provided. If you are unable to type directly on the form, feel free to print on a separate sheet and paste (physically) in the space provided.

So the secondary is 1 question answered in the form of an essay?

Yes, that's how the writing portion was previous years. Of course there is also an administrative portion that you must fill out to complete the secondary, including things like prior mil affiliation, SAT score, etc.

Adam,

Take a deep breath. Applying early is a good idea and you're already on top of it. Your stats are more than adequate. All that will keep you from going to medical school is if you convince interviewers that you have a personality disorder that is too extreme to tolerate.

I'm glad to hear you want to be an internist but since you haven't started medical school, you need to keep an open mind. Approach each topic and rotation like its what you want to do. You'll perform better and you might find that it turns out to be true.

You probably want to change your signature. You haven't gotten into med school yet and while its admittedly less presumptuous than "future navy neurosurgeon", its not helpful. Furthermore, I'd recommend staying anonymous on this forum.

I agree with Gastrapathy...you really shouldn't use your name on these forums! USUHS uses prior graduates as interviewers often....and there are many USUHS grads on this site. And please, settle down...enjoy your summer!

I know on the secondary there is a portion where you are supposed to check yes/no/don't know about possible medically disqualifing conditions. How detailed, up front should I be here?

If offered an admissions spot, I have no intention on lying about my medical history during my physical, but I don't want to be rejected pre-interview due to a medical condition that could be waived.

hey, I am also about to send in my amcas. but sometimes i feel like usuhs would be #1 choice and sometimes it's like my last choice. military definitely intrigues me. but i am sort of bipolar about it.

you'll figure it out at the interview

hey i've been meaning to ask this: where do usuhs students do their clerkships? If you like some hospital, could you spend a year there? do most of the clerkships have to be at the hospitals that have residency programs? thanks

I don't have the exact list of hospitals in front of me but it is basically all of the US military hospitals. Sorry I can't be more specific. (maybe someone who is already at USUHS could answer that better) As to the second part, yes that is possible. I know that on my interview day they told us that they sometimes have people basically move to Texas.
