Can you get secondary invites before verification?

hari-bhari said:

Yes. A few schools do send them (Columbia, etc.)

There are a few you can do before you're verified too, like Johns Hopkins.
Mine mainly flooded in after verification though.

While you're waiting you could work on Q's from your non-screener schools.

NO BUTTON 😱 Ill call them tomorrow and subtley ask 😛

Does anyone one know how the Mayo fee ($75) is paid? I believe it is supposed to happen before any phone interview can even be considered. I couldn't find a link on their site. Thanks.

I've heard that they email you with a request for da moolah.

They update on Thursdays so you might have it there on Friday. Just a guess. And who knows? The Button could be BAD! 😉

Im confused as hell, how do we access the BU secondary? I got the email, but I dont have the login etc or the 2nd email??

anyone figure it out??

Mayo just sent an email requesting the "secondary" fee ($75.00). Since they do a phone secondary, I don't know how to update the list!

When I went to the website, I saw I was selected for a secondary from UCLA, but what is worrisome is I have not received notice of this....had I not checked I would not have known....might there be other secondaries that we are able to fill but are unaware of.

Did this happen to anybody else? What's the deal? And what other schools are having a similar situation?

I got this too, but it didn't seem like I was selected for anything. It just said I needed to send $75 for them to look at my AMCAS application. As thrilled as I would be to have "screened" for their secondary - I don't think that is what this is..... anyone else have an opinion?

This is what the email says:

Dear runningmom,

Mayo Medical School has recently received your application from
American Medical College Application Service. Thank you for choosing Mayo as
one of the schools you are interested in attending. We sincerely
appreciate your application to and your interest in our school.

A $75 fee is required to start the review process of your AMCAS
application.

1. Please make your check payable to "Mayo Medical School."

2. Write your AMCAS ID number and name (if different from the check writer) on the check to assure proper credit. Your canceled check will
be your receipt.

3. Send the check to Mayo Medical School, 200 First Street SW,
Rochester, MN, 55905.

The deadline for receipt of the application fee is December 1, 2006.
If the fee is not received by this deadline, your application will be
closed.

Your AMCAS application will be considered within four weeks of receipt
of the fee. If you are taking the fall MCAT, it will be considered
upon receipt of the MCAT scores. When additional information, such as
letters of recommendation, is needed for your file, you will be notified.

Thank you for your interest in Mayo Medical School. For current
information about the school, please visit the website at www.mayo.edu/mms.

Sincerely,

Jane Satre
Admissions Coordinator
Mayo Medical School

Yeah I got this same e-mail. I seems like they just want their money before they can even call you. I don't think I'm paying it. But it was cool to see Mayo Medical School in the e-mail subject.

I wonder if it is worth it to apply to Mayo med school (for me). I worked there and got a recommendation from a surgeon there who is up there at the top. However, my stats arent really that competitive if i were to apply to Mayo. Is it worth the shot

One should go on every page 🙂

Also i requested this in the secondary questions thread, but activity has been a little bit lax. Anyone have the UNC questions? can someone post them if you have em? 🙂

Anyone else NOT get boston yet? I'm getting a little impatient...
It can't be last name since I'm pretty early in the alphabet. Maybe its by verification time. The AAMC ruins things for me again.

Mayo = email
Finally got boston today.
What is up with BU's letters of rec? You have to explain your letters of rec if you dont use an advisory letter? What kind of bull$hit is that?

For the Mayo one, guys, it is a real secondary or do they just want you to pay $75, and THEN THEY WILL REVIEW your application, and they MIGHT send you a secondary, or what?

"Your AMCAS application will be considered within four weeks of receipt of the fee."

Then from the Mayo site:

Well-rounded and qualified applicants are contacted to submit supplemental application materials such as letters of reference, and are invited to schedule a standardized telephone interview with a member of the admissions staff. The telephone interview consists of behavioral-based and experience-related questions and covers a diverse array of candidate attributes.

After that:

The Associate Dean of Student Affairs reviews individual scores from the standardized telephone interview and identifies qualified applicants for on-campus interviews in Rochester, Minnesota.

Hope that answers your questions. Basically it's a pay us $75 fee.

I don't think it has anything to do with any part of the interview process at all.... looks like any who applied to Mayo will get the email saying basically - OK we got your app - now send us the $$ and we'll look at your app.

It only bugs me because I don't understand why they don't have the fee paid out upfront when you fill out your AMCAS like everyone else does. Now I have to wait for a check to get there......

Hey guys:
For the BU secondary what exactly do they want for this:
" No Health Professions Advisory Committee letter is available to me for the following reason(s) (2000 character limit, approximately 400 words):"

Is a selection from the drop down menu all you need? Or do you actually have to write an explanation. All I would say is that there is no such committee.

Yeah. Just be like, "My undergraduate institution does not offer a Health Professions Advisory Letter. In lieu of this letter, the following professors are sending in academic letters of recommendation on my behalf: Dr. Iam NotKidding, phD, I.P Standing, esq., and Dr. Ben Dover, MD."

I dunno, my school has a pre-med advisor, but not a committee, and the letters the advisor writes aren't composite letters. Personally, I think I'm going to select "other", state that I am sending my advisor's letter but since it isn't a compilation I'm also sending the 2 science/1 non-sci letters.

If your school has neither a committee or advisor letter, I guess you could choose that option and leave it blank.

I've got a question about Stony Brook's secondary - for the third question (In your intellectual development and preparation for a medical career, which non-science course has been most valuable? Why?) do you think I could talk about a course from high school? I haven't really had any terribly influential non-science courses in college.

Can anyone comment on the Feinberg secondary? Like, # of questions, LOR info, etc?

Just curious.

well apparently Washington University in St. Louis wants to take as much money as they can from people! I just got a letter/brochure in the mail telling me about the "great opportunities" at WashU and that I should apply because of my performance on the April MCAT. I dunno...it's an ego boost to be recruited from them, but is it worth it to spend more money? I'm sure they just sent that to everyone with a certain MCAT score, so I guess I shouldn't feel too special! 😛

i just received the unc supplemntal application. i'm still a bit in shock, but does this mean that i am guaranteed an interview? i'm in state...

Who's got the scoop on UNC? I know you're out there.

Congrats Amygdala. 🙂 I'll update that people are getting through the screens.

There's a thread going on about this. Apparently you get one if you have a 35 or over. I would only apply if you're really interested in the school.

When is the UCLA secondary due for everyone? Most of the other UCs seem to have 1 month deadlines

if you look at the status page of their website, it will tell you if a secondary has been requested of you
