Just out of curiosity, how long is everyone taking to submit their secondaries after you receive them?

I have heard that submitting secondaries after more than 2 weeks might make the admissions committee think that you are not interested in their school. Thus, the regular MD applicants are saying that secondaries should be sent in within a week or two. Are MD/PhD admissions committee also concerned about the time you take to submit the secondaries? It would be nice if an experienced MD/PhD student can answer this question.

Just get them in as soon as you can-- for me, I made the mistake of applying to way too many schools and couldn't get them done within a 2 week window. I think I continued to send them in September (easily over a month after receiving it). Also, once you start doing a few, it gets alot quicker.

As for them thinking you might not be interested..I think they'd be too busy to be keeping track if it's been more than 14 days since you received the secondary! There are generally like 3-4 MD/PhD interview dates per school, so even if you miss one round, you'd still be in the running for the next. I called some schools asking when they'd be considering applications for the different weekends, and they'd generally let me know if my secondary would make it in time for the upcoming session. So if there's a school you're worried about, you could just ask.

Also, what's kind of funny is that after an MD acceptance, you're supposed to turn in a deposit of around $100 by a deadline to reserve your spot. Well I never sent deposits to 2 schools, thinking that they would assume I wasn't interested and take me of their lists. But AMCAS told me I was still holding spots there months later! So even when you *do* think they'll care about your interest level, it might not be the case 🙂

Best of luck, you'll get them all done soon enough!
