I know the sooner you are complete with schools, the better. My AMCAS got verified last week, and since, I have submitted 5 secondaries, and working on 8 more.

My stats are pretty much competitive for top 20 schools (if my verbal had been couple points higher). As a result, I applied to around 15 mid range schools that had 10%ile verbal at 8. My science scores and GPA are 90%ile at these schools (12PS, 14BS, 3.97). Good ECs, excellent letters.

Just curious to see my chances at this point. My advisor tells me I'll be fine as long as I'm complete by November, but then this neurotic SDN mentality tells me I'm extremely late? 😕

I know I have a shot at many of these schools, but would I be fighting for waitlists?

November is pretty late.

But, it really depends on the school... Places with rolling admissions may be more difficult obviously, I think NickNaylor said Michigan gives out something like 90% of its acceptances to people that applied by Sept? Hell, Mayo doesn't even interview after December, so obviously a lot of those invites get sent out way beforehand...

Nice numbers tho, I bet you'll be alright if you're as baller as you sound...

I hope by baller you mean getting a 7 in verbal which I raised from a 5 LMFAO. You know, I had this totally killer schedule to have everything completed before September rolled around... I would have if it didn't mean retaking my MCAT. LOL I feel so screwed... What happened to "Deadlines for a reason"?

lol No, unfortunately not - you already know what that 7 will do to you at a lot of places. But :xf: and hope for the best!

Yea well, not much I could do about the verbal. Never got a 10 on any of my FLs, so I don't think a retake is an option. Good thing I didn't apply to any top 20.... I wish schools would just fight over me...

I think 7 is the cut-off at a lot of schools -- so you can be happy it wasn't a 6! 🙂

You're science scores are very nice tho, I bet you'll get a few bites.

Lol yea, I was actually pretty grateful about that. I'm not too picky where I end up as long as it's not Toledo or Wright State (secretly hoping I get rejected there haha).

Thanks for the advice man! Much appreciated.

Why ya hating on the mid-range Ohio schools????

I feel like I have worked too hard to get into those schools...

Tsk tsk. You can't speak like this until you have an acceptance in hand (which if you were on the earlier side, you could have from Michigan in the next 2 weeks).

Seriously though, don't speak poorly of other schools. It's altogether gauche, and note that everyone believes they've worked hard. There are hard-working people out there who would kill for an acceptance anywhere, even Toledo. You might look silly sitting in March without an acceptance and having been "secretly hoping" for rejections.

I have my reasons. I'm just saying that if you basically have strived to be an attractive applicant, it's hard to settle in a place that admits those that have lower standards than you have.

My application was late for a number of reasons. Reasons that I feel I shouldn't disclose for people to analyze me with.

You still come off as pompous (and again, unduly/undeservedly so when you haven't been accepted anywhere). Do you really believe that a medical student at Toledo feels like they skated through undergrad and didn't work hard to gain a medical school acceptance? You'll want to start off your medical career with a good dose of humility and gratitude. Or at very least, don't speak like this for fear of offending someone.

I had plenty of successful colleagues here at Penn who applied on the very late side (one right before the deadline). But they didn't have a verbal of 7. If you're competitive, you'll be competitive, regardless. On the subject of secondaries, I always gave myself a rule of only taking a week to turn them around. They'll also get easier and quicker as you can sample from prior secondaries.

You are talking about being complete in November and you have a VR of 7. It's time to get off your high horse about being too good for any of the MD schools
