I'm about to pick my hospitals for Third yr rotations and I have a pretty good idea that would like to shoot for a surgery residency when I graduate. What's the best criteria for selecting a hospital (for rotations) for a specialty you would ultimately like to end up in? For example...I have heard that hospital X has a great reputation, challenging etc, but students do not get involved in much surgery. Hospital Y is a lower quality rotation, but students get to do more (lots of first assist etc). When it comes to letters, experience, education etc, what's the best place to do the rotation? Thanks!

I think I'd go with Y. THat way, by doing, you'll get a better idea of what surgery is all about and confirm that you'd like to do it for a career. Plus, you'll have more fun which is more motiviating for study. You can do a more "high quality" rotation in your 4th year electives/sub I. I got all my letters from 4th year rotations.
