Self-Teaching Endocrinology (strategies?)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If your taking exam after Jan 2015 you could just follow the khanacademy course that includes psychology and behavior related topics.
Also nothing wrong with studying early but I would be hesitant to take the MCAT without taking an in depth course on the subjects.

Hormones, yes, if you have a photographic memory you would be set. There isn't much to know other than Where they start, where they go, what they do, what increases/decreases levels, and maybe some common pathology examples.

Common endocrines to know:

FLATPiG from Anterior Pituitary: FSH, LH, ACTH, TSH, Prolactin, Growth Hormone
Oxytocin and ADH from Posterior Pituitary.

Hypothalamus: GnRH, CRH, TRH, Dopamine, GHRH, Somatostatin.

Thyroid: TH, Calcitonin.
Parathyroid: PTH.

Adrenals: Aldosterone, Cortisol, Androgens.

Ovary: Estrogen/Estradiol
Testes: Testosterone.

Fat: Estrone
Peripheral Tissues: DHT

Dunno what your course schedule looks like, but personally taking human physio helped me out tremendously with a bunch of MCAT stuff. But self studying works too. The main thing is immediately do practice as that'll help solidify the facts into your brain.

Adding onto what Arayh posted, here's a few more stuff:

Hypothalamus produces the releasing hormones, which goes to the anterior pituitary where the secreting hormones are produced, which goes to the target via the blood. All these mechanisms are negative feedback loops.
I remember it as: being HypoR (hypothalamus, releasing) causes you to get APitStain (Anterior Pituitary, secreting).

I remember the anterior pituitary hormones as FLAGTOP, but FLAGPiG works great too:
FSH, LH, ACTH, GH, TSH, EndOrphins, Prolactin

Adrenal cortex hormones are all steroid molecules
