As pod students finish up this semester, I'm curious to see what your biggest challenge of the semester was. As this forum is well read, I think it would also be a good idea for potential students to see the challenges we face as we go through school.

I'll start! For me, it was trying to figure out all of this residency stuff

I think my biggest challenge so far this school year would be studying for a cumulative Biochem final, then immediatly cramming for the next test about 4 days away, and then cramming even more for a test 2 days away from the last one. I ended up studying 14 hours one day and 24 hours the next.

I thought interviews were hard now I think it is ranking programs.

I think whatever is next on the list is the challenge of the moment. What ever has passed does not seem that bad as it is over and done.

DOCLM said it best, getting done with one test, then having to start cramming for another one a few days away, then the one after that, then the one after that. It just wears on you after awhile, I'm looking forward to 2nd year (from what some 2nd years have said at least).

Jonwill, good idea for a topic, like you said, good insight for us pre-pods too.

Along with the semester challenges, what was the most challenging class so far? and why?

Thanks!

I have studied just as much or even more this first semester of second year than I did during the first year.

Just wait until you get into PBL in your 3rd year. Then you have class and clinic from 8 to 5 everyday and you have to go home and look up your learning issue and prepare for the oral and written exams.

Hey Feelgood,

Did you get the APMA News letter for NOV/DEC?

👍 👍

Is that you in DMU's Chronicle too?
Dang Gen Xer haha

I'm not sure about that but that is b/c I haven't seen the Chronicle. What was it about???

Hey just curious! How often do we have Oral exams in Podiatric School. By Oral Exams do you mean Professor/Clinician asking a few questions while clinicals or is the Oral exam like a real deal exam in which you sit in front of a panel surrounded by your fellow students. and they ask questions which are very very long.

That is obviously going to be school dependent. At DMU in your 3rd year, when you start PBL, you have a written and oral examination at the end of each rotation. The oral exam is done in the office of the clinician and usually consists of working up a case.

To quote Sarah Chalke (Smoking hot Elliot from Scrubs): Frick and Double Frick.

Yeah pick up the Spring 06 copy, its about differences between old farts and young whippersnappers. The guy in the Generation X pic who's also on the cover looks alot like you.
