If you're a residency trained pharmacist with a strong antimicrobial background, how would you like this job?

1. Monday - Friday 8 to 4.
2. Job duty will be strictly clinical follwing IV to PO, Renal Dosing, PK, Antibiotic streamline, P&T, Infection Control, and Critical Care participation.
3. About $115,000 per year.
4. Some teaching.

The worst part of the job is having to put up with me once a month telling you what to do... :meanie:

Maybe once every other week.

or more often.

Or the OP is thinking of offering this kind of package to one lucky (or unlucky 😀) pharmacist?

Actually, it's pretty typical of what we offer to clinicians.

Will you save a position for me...in case I decide to switch over to hospital & go back and do a residency? 😛

actually, residency is not required..but preferred. Strong ID is a must. Opportunity to advance in the company.. to DOP level and more. Especially if you want to move in the future.

where would one have to live for such a hypothetical job

obviously being a P2 this has no real bearing on me, but what you have described, a job focusing on ID is something that is of great interest to me for down the road.

Good Lord, is $115k what you give everybody? The cost of living ain't that bad in Dallas, either. ****, I can only get $90-105 in Pittsburgh. I'm movin' to Texas.

I love ID.

but I'd rather not do 8-4. How about 10-6? Or better yet, 12-8?

the job is in NJ?

got anything in colorado?

not sure.. We have one in IN, Chicago.. and these jobs pop up here and there. Most of the time, we make hires without advertising.

Yeah? How about 7-3..better yet, 6-2?

can I beg and choose? PLLEEEASE!

What is this "some teaching"? Academic hospital, Med Science Liason type stuff?

Yup...teaching hospital with Medical Interns and residents. Also we have Rutgers Pharmacy Interns..

Dude.. you got like 3.5 years... Maybe we'll have something in Little Rock. I doubt it tho. St. Vincent, Childrens, Baptist, and UAMS all think they're doing a great job.. Little do they know..

Yeah, 5 of my siblings were born at BMC. I'd have never second guessed those hospital's until just now. Kind of weird how perspective changes with personal association. Probably why they all think they're doing so well.

I've been in about 35 hospitals this year. Out of those, there was only 1 hospital with an exceptional clinical program. But their operational issues were tremendous. The rest sucked...

That's why we stay in business.

I'm loving those hours!!

I think that position sounds ideal! Unfortunately I won't have residency training.

Cool...so there won't be difficulties hiring ...

Cool...so there won't be difficulties hiring ...

I wouldn't think so! Those hours sound perfect to me and I'm sure they would sound great to most of my friends as well! Some people don't like getting up so early, but to me it's worth it because you get to beat traffic and you get off early!

Does the ID/CCM medical staff support the creation of this position? How many beds? How many clinical pharmacy specialists does the institution currently employ?

Yeah? How about 7-3..better yet, 6-2?

you are a mean, horrible DoP!

actually, I could probably adjust (I'm currently digging the 2-5 school schedule we have this semester) and if it were in a prime locale horse-wise I'd be all over the 6-2.

Seriously, I will come find you in 2 1/2 years. Possibly in 3 1/2 - but with an ID or Critical Care specialty would one be overqualified for said position?

1000 Bed system...but 600 bed at this campus. 1 Clinical Coordinator but 3 other pharmay specialists...but not clinical.

Infection Control and administration fully support it. I could give ratz arse about ID and CCM medical staff concerns. It's because they suck so bad, I'm having to fix the program. It will be the responsibility of this pharmacist to build relationship and earn respect from them. With my guidance of course. Thin skinned candidates need not apply..

I'm neither mean nor a DOP... this place would be horrible for horses. Though, I think we got some stuff in Montana...No such a thing as an overqualification for whom I'm looking for.

I am sure there are Walgreens and CVS stores all over that area.

Nah, bump that, I wanna be the dude in the basement of some small-moderate sized hospital all alone with an internet connection between the hours of 9PM-7AM. That has to be the best job in the universe. No other humans anywhere....and if one is going to talk to you, it's on the other end of a phone. I figure if I have to be a journeyman for the 1.5 years until I can get a job I actually want in industry somewhere, it may as well be one in which I don't have to deal with other people.

You'd seriously have to pay me $250,000 to work in New Jersey. No, that is not an exaggeration.

😀 I appreciate it, because it means more space (and money) for me. 😛

Though there are plenty of states, for example Texas, where I wouldn't live if I were paid my weight in diamonds every day. 😀

Well...don't take it personally...but....*inhalation*

I stood at the end of South Street in Philadelphia and looked across the Delaware River towards New Jersey - I swear to God, it was sunny in Philly, overcast in Jersey, and I heard a gunshot and screaming coming from the Jersey side of the River. Then I tried to go to AC - it's bad enough to get the occasional Jersey driver in West Virginia from all of the kids that want to go to WVU in lieu of Rutgers - but an entire HIGHWAY filled with Jersey drivers? My sweet lord, I feared for my life. Some dude in an Escalade actually used the shoulder to pass me on a two lane highway just to get off on that damned highway off ramp in the middle of nowhere with a Starbucks in it that was only about 1/2 mile down the road. Then when I got to AC, I couldn't go more than 15 feet without 5 prostitutes offering their services to me. Wait, that's a good thing. Anyway, on my escape attempt from New Jersey, I was almost assaulted by a damned gas monkey when I tried to pump my own gas because, apparently, New Jersey folk need to be certified to take on the daunting task of squeezing the handle of a gas dispensing mechanism into an automobile. And, then, to cap it all off, I had to pay a toll to get back across the Ben Franklin Bridge into Pennsylvania. Thinking about this made plenty of sense. You sure as hell can't get people to pay to come into New Jersey...but they'll definitely pay any amount of money with a smile on their face to get out of the place.*inhalation*

But, hey, that's just me. If you like it there, well, somebody has to live there...more power to you, you do everyone else a great service.

I love the Philly area, but don't go into some of the neighborhood's around South Street after dark. Philadelphia will have 400 murders in 2008. Camden is safer, sorry to say.

New Jersey drivers are the worst I must agree.

I don't think AC has a monopoly on those. But unless you were gambling, there are way better shore points than AC..... Ocean City, Cape May, Avalon.

I guess you don't like to be served. Just because a waitress brings you food in a restaurant doesn't mean you couldn't do it yourself. It's a service and gas is cheaper than in PA where you pump it yourself.[/quote]

You used to have the pay the toll each way but in order to save time they just charge coming into PA.

But, hey, that's just me. If you like it there, well, somebody has to live there...more power to you, you do everyone else a great service.
The real problem is the salary only works if you stay out of North Jersey. The Cost of Living there is way to high to live off of the $115K per year.

Now that I am done defending my sister state, Oh, to be 25 years younger. These positions weren't available back then. This is a great opportunity for those that are so inclined, even if EPIC is all over you, at least he has a sense of humor. Also since he knows what he is doing, just do it his way and if doesn't work out it will be his fault:laugh: Grab this job if you can....... Home every night for dinner, no weekends, 115K per year, a clean clinical job with opportunity to advance.... Unless there is a catch this job is ideal.

Just so you know, the advantages of NJ is you are close to:

  • The Ocean (stay away from AC unless you like to gamble)
  • Philadelphia (A city of amazing restaurants & some nice museums)
  • Major League Sports
  • New York (shows, museums, restaurants)
  • Washington (for those who love history & politics)
  • The Poconos (for skiers)

Actually for the kind of riding I do, Montana is a wasteland. Southeastern PA, Central to Northern Virginia, most of Maryland, North and South Carolina.

Seriously. I want that job. I'd take a $20K cut from what you're offering to live in the above areas. But sadly, I do not have legs to rival sdn's.

Chicago?! Where do I sign up? Sounds exactly like something I would want to do.

New Jersey drivers really are BAD. Oh well, I've seen worse. When you have been 3/4 of the way around the world and spend substantial amount of time in a few different countries, that puts things into perspective.

The traffic which the locals like to scare outsiders with is nothing to write home about, really. I live 15 miles away from where I work and the longest it has gotten me to get there is 45 minutes. Usually it is closer to 30.

It is actually a rather pretty state. Beats the dusty, sunburned praire any day.

I live in a town where the last violent crime was a few years back (and hopefully stays that way) and people walk up and down the main street, and I feel absolutely safe walking half a mile alone on barely lit street nearby well after dark.

The gas is quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else and when the winter gets freezing, you appreciate not having to stand there in the wind and pump your own gas.

Yes, the rent is expensive and overall the prices are higher than in Midwest - but you get more bang for you buck. I am 1,5 hours away from NYC, Philly, beach, mountains, or anything else. You can get better deals on international flights out of the three New York airports than out of any other city in the country. There are hundreds of little cafes and restaurants with unique offerings. Shopping is amazing. Diversity is amazing. Sheer variety of job opportunities available to the pharmacists is amazing.

And the people are nice, even if some of them speak funny. And at any rate, it's closer to civilization (read: Europe) 😀

Though it is not for everyone, of course, no place is. 🙂

Ohhhh...I'm happily employed. So it would take a lot to lure me away...especially if I had to answer to you every week! 😀

Yeah..you would have hard time.. heck, I would kill myself if I had to report to me..

Why New Jersey sux so bad.

1. People don't drive bad. The road system sux to the max. Drivers seem like they're bad because half of them are lost at any given time...

2. No city planning or zoning to speak of. Of course...that's because it's old. Still no excuse. You're not going to see kids playing on the street. How can you...when there is no differentiation between "neighborhood streets" and "City Streets." Many signs are faded and can't be read.

3. Just because there is an exit on the HWY, it doesn't mean there is an entrance to the HWY.. and just because there is an entrance to north bound HWY, it doesn't mean there is an entrance to south bound HWY, vice versa.

4. Wow...see how central jersey glows..with all those refineries. And it smells.

5. Did I mention how bad the road system is?

6. People are nice? If you like "in your face" attitude..I guess people are nice.

7. I drove 30 minutes to find a grocery store.. went in. No alcohol. Asked a clerk where I can get a bottle of wine... well, there is only 1 liquor store in this town..which I had to take about 15 turns driving through neighborhood/city streets to find... then I asked for a wine bottle opener.. the clerk gave me a blank stare "what u gonna do with a bottle opener..aint gonna help you with a wine bottle. You need a cork screw... " I was like..."STFU." I drove an hour to find a bottle of wine.

8. I don't care how cold it gets. I want to pump my own gas. I don't like the idea of artificially creating useless jobs to inflate emplyment rate. Only a democrat would do such a thing.

9. Housing is ludicrous... one of th emost expensive in the country. And with a full rate of state income tax, then you have 1 to 5 percent property tax. Don't get me wrong. My bro lives there and told me very proudly...how his POS plywood/siding house is assessed at 1.2 million... and his tax is over 3 percent. I said..."you is an idiot."

10. I have to take a tram to get to the rental car at the Newark airport.

11. It takes 9 dollars of toll to get to NJ from LaGuardia.

12. Diners are overrated.

13. Hospital pharmacy management is piss poor... that's why we have so many accounts there.

14. There are stuffy country clubs where men walk around naked in the locker room.. very proud... and they shouldn't be very proud. After a golf tournament...every one of them took a shower and changed to suit. I rebelled...and stayed in my sweaty golf clothes..and kept my cap on in the dining room with my blackberry on the dining table. Cell phones are prohibited. I was the only one with a hat on.

15. Road system sux.

16. Manhattan is close. Sounds good. But can you really get to Manhattan from NJ without spending half a day sitting in the traffic? Take the ferry.

And the best thing about NJ.

1. When I get on the plane and get he heck outta there.
