i know this is a silly question, but it seems that people are mailing letters of intent through certified mail, etc. but is it perfectly acceptable to send such letters via regular mail? does that look "unprofessional" in some way?

thanks.

I sent mine via email. And just added that "if you prefer, i would be more than willing to send it via mail". I attached the letter so that they can print and just add it to my file (instead of putting it in the email).

The response was good. No one insisted I mail the letter and I got three interviews in the next three days.

Did you email it to the Dean of Admissions? what did you write in the body of the email, just "I have attached a letter of intent. Signed, XXX" or did you reiterate your interest?

I personally sent all of my letters of intent by regular snail mail. I don't know that certified mail looks any better. If I were to recieve one per certified mail, then I would think you're somewhat neurotic. However, so are most premeds, and I was neurotic in other ways.

How does THAT work? I hope you misread the OP and did not send three letters of intent pre-interview. 😱

Which three schools were receptive to your LOI?

I'm guessing he meant a letter of interest. There's some ambiguity to the acronym LOI, but maybe he overlooked the thread title?

I should have clarified - i meant letter of interests and not intent. The schools were NYMC, Drexel and UNC.

I had communicated with each of these schools beforehand and so knew the name of someone working in the admissions office. So I sent the letter to them. Starting "Hello Katie, " then I wrote couple sentences stating that I am attaching a letter of interest and will you please make sure to deliver this letter to "Dr.XXXX (dean of admissions). And ended saying if you would prefer, I will be more than happy send it via us mail.

Directing the email to someone in the admissions office allowed me to follow up with them easily. But make sure the letter itself is written to the Dean or the Director of admissions.

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah...I did not reiterate my interest in the email. I specifically wanted them to print the ATTACHED LETTER and DELIVER to the right person (and not print the email. )
