When sending in paper versions of your primary app to schools taking them, how do u guys format the printable version from AMCAS so u dont have to send in the designated school page. I printed mine out, but my last semester of grades is on the same page as my designated school page. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

you need a good skill in cut and paste, and then rephotocopy 😀

I really want to give you more advice, but it has been such a traumatic procedure...it's like reliving the procedure again.....best of luck justin 😀

cut the designate section, and take the last part of the printout (the AMCAS rules) and paste it to where the schools were located...copy again to get a good quality scan 😉

At first I cut out the schools and then photocopied that page without any schools on it. Then I cut out the school i was applying to and taped it on the page and then photocopied it once more. Then I just sent that in with it.

Then I realized you can just save the version as an html document and go into it by "viewing source" and delete all the other schools and leave the one you are applying to. Either way will work 🙂

thanks Big W and Slicky S......hey Scoob, whats up with the group in berk going over secondaries and stuff?

Scooby that was just far too ingenious for me to sit here and be quiet. Brilliant.

Hey Justin,
I have no clue! All I know is that I have been so busy lately trying to schedule plane flights and work full time that I haven't even started preparing for interviews...
Bubblebear i think was in charge..oh well...

jasmine,
Why thank you 🙂
I am good at many other things too... *wink wink* 😉 😉 😀 😀 😀 😛 😛

For those less technically advanced, but who want to try it anyway:

IE and PC users: If you know very basic HTML, use the right mouse button on the window that has the printed application, and hit the View Source option. Netscape is similar. It's probably too big to open with notepad, so it'll ask you for Wordpad. Then simply edit out the section that has the schools, save as a new file, reload that file in your browser using File -> Open menu, and print that. (You have 2 options: remove the table altogether, or simply delete the schools' names within the double quotes.)

Why do you want to omit that section anyway? Aren't schools going to see it eventually? Maybe I'm missing the whole point of this thread!

Easiest way.

Save it as html.
Open it with Microsoft frontpage.
Choose designated schools
Delete
Print

no schools are not privy to that info 😀 If schools find out to how many schools we are applying to...it takes away the a person's "sincerity" to that school. You can't no longer say, this school is my first choice, when your applying to 35 schools 😀 As far as they know, you could be applying to only their school or only 10 😉 Believe me it makes a difference...

When I sent my secondary to NWU, I really thought about taking my school list out... but then I chickened out and put it in, because I didn't want the school to think that I am a sly person trying to hide something. Many people who are not on this board will probably turn their list in, and although the list is suppsed to not be released to the schools, I still felt that since majority of people will submit the list, I didn't want to make a bad impression...some of my friends who are not reading this forum thought that the schools know about the # schools you apply to, so I doubt that many are concerned/thinking about taking the list out. Like you all said, I really hated them knowing that I applied to 30 other schools, but oh well... hopefully the adm. comm will overlook the list.
Just my opinion.

The way I look at it, is: Adcoms are not stupid. They know that no matter who you are, there is a more than negligeable possibility that you won't get into their school. (I know someone who got into Harvard and one other school last year, and got rejected from 28 others. And I'm sure that's not the exception.) But for most of us, I think the chance of getting into any one school is 1.7%. Multiply that by 30 schools and you're still far from 100%. So it is sensible to apply to many schools.

If you are applying to 35 schools, to me, it shows that you are maximizing your chances, playing it as safe as possible, and being smart. Finances permitting.

I've applied to 16 schools myself 🙂

I just cut out my section so as if it was obvious I was not showing them. I figure, if I hide it, they'll know I'm hiding it. This way it shows I'm not about hiding, I'm just trying to keep my privacy. The last thing any med school wants is a doc who hides things.

nobody said don't apply to a huge number of schools....

just keep that information out...of coures that is your choice, but I also know 20 of my friends who didn't let that info get passed through...

I got interviews, so it isn't like they question my "integrity" by cutting it out....besides, amcas has doesn't send that info to them either....so its all good 😀

Just my opinion.•

My committee recommendation letter interviewer (who also happens to be the head of the premed dept at my school) told me that all the schools know the number of schools that you applied to. In fact, he strongly advised me not to apply to as many as I was planning on (30) because he told me it would make it seem as though I lacked confidence. I cut my school list down by five or so schools to give me an even 25 in the end. But he's been advising for 20 years so I see no reason to think that he's wrong. Bottom line: if the schools don't know now, they WILL eventually know the number of places (if not the schools themselves) that you applied to before you're accepted...
