Sending Thank-You email after interview (Expected/Appropriate/Inappropriate?)

What's the protocol if there even is one? I figure mailing a thank you card to the interviewers is probably a bit much.

One of the interviewees I was with said he was going to send thank you emails to the 3 interviewers we had. Is this normal practice? Is it even appropriate?

It is normal and some folks do but I can also back fire.

this issue has come up on the boards before but i will state my opinion AGAIN.

obviously, the people who are of the opinion that to send a thank-you note is to brown-nose have never worked in corporate america. you send thank-you notes/emails b/c people appreciate being told "thank-you" and being told that you appreciate them taking the time to make your visit enjoyable and informative. it is common courtesy!!!

I got a business card from my interviewer and also looked up a few email addresses at the school's website. I wrote a thank you to all who took considerable amounts of time to come and talk with us. I also wrote a thank you to Mrs. Beard and mentioned by name a few of the people who most impressed me during the day hoping that they might get an "attaboy" for going above and beyond. I wanted to assure the individuals that I was writing because they did a good job not because I wanted them to remember what a good job I had done.😎

Yes I did receive a best of luck email from one individual.

ive sent several thank you notes. its important to write a sincere, personal thank you note, otherwise it's real easy to come off as sucking up


almost every person ive emailed a thank you note has replied back with a genuine, specific, responsive email. the only person who didnt reply back was my houston interviewer, even though he was so insistent on giving me his contact information.

its definitely a personal thing. there are several interviewers who i didnt send thank you notes to.
