i'm gonna be applying this summer and I am wondering where i need to send my transcripts to? Do I send 1 copy to amcas and they attach that to my primary and send it to all the individual schools or do i need to find the addresses for all the medical schools I will be applying to and have my transcript sent directly there?

I believe AMCAS supplies you with the address to send it to.

You will request 2 transcripts from each school you attended (inc. community college). You have one of those transcripts sent to AMCAS and one sent to you.

Send one to yourself b/c you have to make an exact copy of it when you fill out AMCAS. If its not exactly the same, you will have delays in processing. Ordering the transcript makes it much easier on yourself, plus its not bad to have an updated transcript in hand.

Once AMCAS has it, it will distribute the electronic version that you submit on the web. You send your real transcript just so they can verify that your info is truthful and correct.

cool, thanks..

also, how do you designate college classes taken in high school. Do you just add those as freshman year?

Send the transcript to AMCAS with your application, and submit them with all of your secondaries to every school.

AMCAS will not send transcripts to individual schools, and your file will not be complete until you do so.

uuhhh... osu doc.. where'd u get that from?

u only send one to amcas and fill it out online. i only requested one and got the stuff for filling out AMCAS by lookin up my grades online. but get that request sent out soon. sometimes it takes a while for them to register the receipt.

I only sent a transcript to AMCAS, and several schools contacted me and said my file was incomplete. I even showed up at interviews, where they told me that they never got my transcript. They then informed me that AMCAS does not send transcripts to individual schools, and that you must do that yourself.

So to answer your question, I got that from personal experience.

this is still confusing to me let me get this straight:

-you fill out your grades on AMCAS
-you print out and fill out the transcript request sheet from AMCAS (which isn't up yet)
-send that form to each school (along with any other transcript request form each school might have and some money if need be)
-the schools send one of your transcripts to you and one to AMCAS
-once they get the form and check it, you are complete?

is this roughly how it goes?

Not true! I applied to 30 schools via AMCAS, and only one of them wanted a transcript with the secondary. The rest got my grades from AMCAS.

Not quite. 🙂 You fill out your grades on AMCAS. You give your school's academic office the AMCAS transcript request form, and then your school will send a copy of your transcript to AMCAS. Your application at AMCAS will NOT be complete until your transcripts are received. You will be able to check online to see if/when AMCAS receives your transcripts. Transcripts must be sent from each and every college that you've attended.

Then, individual schools (the ones that you designated) will contact AMCAS to receive a copy of your primary application. This is where they will see your grades. Good luck! 😀

One last thing: you WILL need to send your final transcript to the school that you decide to attend.

no... you do NOT need to send transcripts. if a school wants one, they will ask. that is the whole point of using AMCAS... to simplify the process. there were a couple of schools that asked for courses to be listed on the secondary but i know of none that wanted an actual transcript. where are you getting this information?

got it. thanks!

one more question. since I will be done with all my undergrad schooling (got my BS in 2003 and i'm finishing up my post-bacc this semester), do i still have to send out my final transcript to the school that i'll be going to?

thanks again!!

OSUdoc08 is in osteo school (right?), maybe the app process is slightly different. it may not be the same transcript policy through AMCAS.

It's true for Baylor (AMCAS)

Baylor didn't ask for a transcript, but still required it.

Agreed.

And wendywellesley, you'd have to ask the the school you'll be attending if they need a final transcript. I think they would ultimately want to have their own authentic copy, rather than the list of grades that AMCAS sends. Good luck! :luck:

one more quesiton.... (sorry!) can I have the transcripts sent to AMCAS before I submit my application? or do I have to submit everything before they can recieve a transcript?

thanks again!!

yes-- actually I'd recommend doing this instead of waiting after you've submitted it.

Gosh, you are on the ball with this. I didn't even start asking for LORs until mid Aug. and I submited my AMCAS in late August.

I'd recommend getting the AMCAS in by the end of June, unless there is a specific reason you must delay.

MCAT's, recommendation letters, and transcripts are not reasons for delay, since they can be sent seperately.

Another option is waiting to submit your transcript until you get your post-bacc grades. If it won't make a significant difference in your GPA, then it's probably not worth it. BTW, did you take the MCAT yesterday? :scared:
