Growing up i was always pressured by my parents to become a doctor. When people asked me what i wanted to be i would automatically say "a doctor" but inside i hated the plan.

i didnt want to be a doctor because all my friends in school told me it took way to long and i hated the fact my parents thought they could choose my career for me.

On thanksgiving day while sitting with my cousins we talked about plans for the future. i always felt like id somehow just make it, i never understood/planned how. i didnt even want to go to college. but after talking with family members my age & after hearing each one of there own stories (no one tried to talk me into being a doctor)

Now i truly want to become a doctor. the problem is i am deffinetly going to community college. ( i am great in school, i do great on all tests, i can write a great essay if i need to, and i dont need to pay attention to understand a lesson) The only reason i did bad in high school is because i wanted to goof around, get girls, and be popular & i did not really know where my life was aheaded so i just lived day by day.

Now i know exactly what i want to do with my life. I dont care about how long the proccess of becoming a doctor is because now i realize its not wasting my life; it'll be a huge part of my life (a very important part).. i am ready and willing, I have done alot of research and i found out going to a community college can actually be an advantage in the long run because its cheaper. I know i have to Keep my GPA high and then transfer after 2 years of CC into a 4 year college to get my bachelors. I am ready for college, i will work very very hard and i wont slack off, I want to be able to support a family, and take care of my parents, i feel like i grew up in 1 day because all of a sudden i understand how much my parents do for me, i want to be able to give back to them.

I just want to know exactly what classes i should take in community college, i read online that there are specific classes i should take in community college and others i should only take in the 4 year school. can someone please tell me the classes i should take in community college and the ones i should take in the 4 year. and i live in Brooklyn Ny so what 4 year school should i be looking to get into after CC? i want to stay in Ny

I never registered to be a part of a forum before, but everytime i googled questions all my answers came from this site, so i decided to be a part of it.

Get all of your general education requirements out of the way at the community college. Depending on the university you will probably have to take 2 English classes, and a bunch of other humanities courses. Check the website or with an advisor of the university you want to go to to see what is required at that school. Most everyone says to wait to take science (or only take like 1 or 2) at a 4-year university because a lot of times science classes aren't quite as rigorous at community colleges. Basically take everything you need to transfer (and obviously classes you can get good grades in) and wait to take the science pre-reqs at a 4-year.

Check with med school requirements first. I've heard that most med-schools do not like to see pre-reqs done at a community college, but I don't know if this policy only applies to science pre-reqs being done at a CC.

But if possible, I'd suggest going to a 4 year college. You'd have more opportunities to do things, such as conducting research, which you won't be able to find in a community college.

Should i attempt to get an Associates degree in Community College?

Associate Degrees are worthless if you plan on going
to medical school. Get a bachelors in something you enjoy and do well in, make good grades, and focus on med school the grand prize.

Ps other than simply telling everyone your whole life that you want to be a doctor, why?
