I just don't get this (from Kaplan's explanation of the free USMLE practice items):

Explanation 28:
"Separation anxiety is the most common anxiety disorder of childhood but is nonetheless rare before age 6"

Explanation 29 (the very next one):
"Separation anxiety is a normal feature of childhood emotional development, occurring between the ages of 8 and 18 months when the infant is separated from the mother"

It doesn't matter. There is very little of that crap on the USMLE.

But that was on the USMLE practice exam put out by the NBME!!!

Two distinct types. The fisrt is a common stage where a baby is upset or afraid to be separated from the primary caregiver. Th other is more of a disorder where kids will fake illness to avoid going to school, ect so they can stay with caregiver/parent. (I think that's called secondary gain)

Thank you for explaining that. Does anyone know when the placenta develops? (I.e. I am imagining a question like at what week of gestation does fetal nutrition shift from the yolk sac to the placenta???).

Nope. No questions like that either. Embryology is not high yield for the boards.

Know about moles, the hormone levels, and stuff like placenta previa, accreta, and abruptio, and you'll be good to go.
