I am wondering the exact same thing, as I have been advised to wait until November also. If okay for derm, wouldn't such a late app impact your chance of getting prelim interviews?

I'm wondering where the Nov 15th date came from? I had heard Nov 1st before but not the 15th. But I haven't really asked around too much, I guess. That does seem late for prelim interviews for certain though, based on what I saw last year. Seemed like there were interview invites coming out in early November for prelim programs.

Pardon my ignorance on the workings of ERAS, but can you submit to your prelim programs Sept 1st, then Derm programs in, say, late October? Or does everything have to be submitted as a package deal?

For derm programs, as long as you submit before their deadlines (these are set by each program and can be found on their websites), you are fine. I think the earliest deadline last year for derm programs was Oct 15. Many don't even start looking at applications until the Dean's letter comes out.

However, prelim and TY programs will start offering interviews pretty much immediately after the Sep 1 submission date. As a derm applicant, you want to get your prelim and TY interviews over with as soon as possible (preferably by early Dec when the derm season kicks in) so that you don't have to fill a potential derm date with an internship interview. The prelim/TY interview days fill really rapidly (especially the early dates), so I would recommend submitting your application as close to Sep 1 as you can. It's probably fine to wait until mid-Sep if you really need those extra few weeks, but any later than that will make it very difficult to get good prelim interview dates.

I would also recommend checking your email obsessively during the application season and calling immediately to schedule an interview after you get an offer. Waiting even an hour can result in an inability to get one of your top date choices. You will also want to monitor the DIGA page that lists derm interview dates so that you can keep big interview days open as long as possible.

After you submit your ERAS application the first time, you can't make any changes to it. You can upload new personal statements after you submit though, so I guess the only reason to apply to prelims only and add derm later would be if you're still working on the personal statements for the derm programs. Since most people use nearly identical personal statements for derm and prelims, this usually isn't an issue.

Once I upload ERAS can I add more pubs easily? Or am I going to have to contact each program and tell them I got another pub. Also, do you have a list of these dates for each derm program by any chance.

What I'm worried about is having to submit ERAS on the 1st of Sept (around that time at least). Then having my pubs finish up over the next month and the derm programs don't get to see them unless I call each program, which would be a pain in the rear. BTW thanks starbucks.

Unfortunately, you can't update pubs via ERAS. This annoys most applicants, since it's very common to have an increased number of pubs or changes in the status of pubs as the application season goes on. To update programs, you'll have to contact them individually.

I don't have a list of the derm program individual deadlines. They may change each year, so you should go to the individual websites. I know this is a huge pain, so if you prefer, you could just assume 10/15 is the earliest like it was last year. You can also just resign yourself to the fact that you're going to have to submit in Sep in order to get good prelim interview dates, so the derm deadlines aren't important. On the other hand, you're going to want to go to all the individual sites to make sure they don't have supplemental stuff you need to do (a handful have such things- last year Penn had something, as did UTSW) so if you're anal like lots of us med students are, you might as well make a spreadsheet with deadlines while you're at it.

So it sounds like Sept 1st is the goal, then if I get more pubs I'm emailing each program essentially.
