Less than three weeks until the first September test (the 7th). How are preparations coming along? What are your plans for the coming weeks leading up to the big day? Comments, concerns, practice scores and advice welcome in this thread. 👍

That isn't a bad score, at the very least. I am wondering myself how hard CBT10 can be; how does it compare to CBT9? Those are the two I have left to take, and I suppose I'd like the easier one to take on Wednesday (as opposed to tomorrow, Monday). Not sure if it matters though.

There is virtually no difference in difficulty between AAMC tests 6,7,8,9, and 10.

AAMC 8: 13PS, 10VR, 12BS
AAMC CBT9: 13PS, 12VR, 12BS

I'd say BrokenGlass is right, there hasn't been much of any difference between 6-9 for me. CBT10 on Wednesday and I'm ready to roll on Friday.

I'm sick of studying. . . I'm about ready to throw in the towel. . .

🙁

What more can I do? I have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. . . then it's the "m-word" Day!!!!! 😱

I'm so scared! :scared:!!!!

What are most of you doing these last few days? Any advice? I'm NOT taking anymore tests. I took my last one on Friday. I wasn't toooo happy about it. 🙁

Good luck to everyone! :luck:

heres a question to see if everyone's ready....given the pKas of the acid, amide, and side groups on an amino acid, how do u calculate the amino acid's pI? muwhhhahahhah

The days before my MCAT on Friday I'll be working on my WS, VR and going through AAMC exams 8 - 10.

Ugh. Just did badly on CBT #8 verbal. For some reason I scored way below my average on humanities. I usually get 90% this time 65%, dropped me quite a bit. 😡😡😡😡😡 I hate this test.

Well, I got my lowest verbal score on that. The ten question passages were rough. But then again, I was feeling under the weather when I took that, and it only really affected VR... I still scored my average on PS and BS. So whatever, right? Don't worry too much about it. The only score that matters is the one that you will be getting a little more than a month from now.

yea, i did my worst in verbal CBT #10. After watching some horror movies, i started seeing things in my hallway when i was taking the exam, haha.

the cool part is that i did not even miss a single o-chem question. only missed some bio b/c i was tired.

missed a few physics and chem

I scored somewhere around my average for CBT 10, although it was the bottom of my average. low 10

Just finished AAMC 8. 11ps 10 Vr 11BS

Not where I wanted it to be, but i heard it was probably the most difficult one, have you guys heard this.???? I especially found portions of the Biology to be challenging, although the ochem seemed relatively easy

Hoping for a couple point increase on the real thing!!!

Yeah, I got my lowest VR score on 8 (and 2nd lowest overall). It's tough.

Yeah, VR was difficult on AAMC 8. I was feeling under the weather that day so that might have contributed to it a little bit. Just the same, a 10 is a solid VR score.

I just took the last EK101VR test, I finished with 25 minutes to spare. Pretty funny considering that's the 60 minute time limit that we're allowed on the CBT MCAT with fewer questions. Didn't feel like going over my answers but I got 12. I'm satisfied with it, and like to think that I am reaching my peak just a few days before the MCAT.

Will be taking CBT10 tomorrow afternoon, although a little later than I usually would as I have a student activity meeting to go to at noon. But should still be a good test experience nonetheless. And then I'm done with this until Friday.

one thing i hate about this exam so far is just missing the few questions here and there in the science sections:

1) misread a question here and there
2) forgot one little content piece on a couple questions

any last minute advice?

oh well, 3 days, 11 hours to go

What I actually miss alot of is when the uestion states, which of the following could be used.... except

I spend 5 minutse going through the choices and am like well geeze these all can work and then just end picking a random one lol, hopefully that doesnt happen on the real thing!!

my main issue right now is my verbal score... I'm always rushing b/c I'm short on 2-3mins. My best score is a 10 on the GS cbt practices... any passage with military, political, or historical treaties are just dreadful:scared: By the way, I regret buying GS cbt package b/c their highlight and scoring system is always on and off, which is so irritating! 😡

a 10 on those GS tests is not bad for verbal.

I made a 12 on one of there tests, the rests have pretty much been 9s though

speaking of weather, it's ridiculous how much I get affected by it. I recently moved to Cali from NY state (in July), and am so glad I did b/c the clear sunny skies of SoCal is really helping me stay alert and focused! It doesn't really matter if I see the sunlight or not, but if the weather is cloudy so is my state of mind. Guess some people are much more sensitive to certain environmental factors...

That heat wave we had in SoCal really put a damper on my studying. I just couldn't think when it was +100 outside and about the same inside (no AC, just had fans). Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought CBT #8 verbal was somewhat difficult. I swear, when I look back I caught 4 stupid mistakes which would have brought my verbal to a 10.

Cali Love. I'm glad that the west coast, which is the best coast, has you convince.

I disagree, ive lived on the west coast for 10 years, and am now on the east coast for over 10. East is better

Was the GS practice test (in which you scored a 12) GS 4? b/c I just scored a 12 on that one too 🙂 ! By the way, the highlight function on GS 4 wasn't working at all!

Oh, and which part of the east coast are you at? I used to live in upstate NY, and the weather over in the Tricity area is just terrible!
Or perhaps it's only b/c I lived there for way~ too long!! So a change of setting for me was a good thing, and thank goodness for AC 😀 My sympathy goes to the one who had to deal with this summer's SoCal heat wave without AC...good thing the computer center will have AC 😉

As I posted in the other September 7 thread, I scored slightly above my AAMC average on CBT10. Very happy with my numbers, especially regarding the AAMC tests. For CBT10, I thought easy PS, typical VR and tricky BS curve. There isn't any significant difference in difficulty between CBT9 and CBT10 in my opinion.. probably depends on whether your particular weaknesses are on any particular test. So if you had any trouble with any particular topic, turn that into a strength, not a weakness. You still have a day to do it without stressing yourself out too much. GOOD LUCK!! :luck:

How sure are you that the center will have AC? 😉

Laura fairlie---- Yes it was GS test number 4 that i scored a 12 on, apparently you miss 3 and its a 12, although on AAMCs it would probably be a 13 maybe a 14

Yea, I thought their curve on that one was odd...perhaps GS 4 VR was easier than the others ? (I couldn't tell the diff. though)
I read somewhere that the cidada were emerging in masses (17-year cycle)this year, and NC was one of the states on the cidada list. I'm sure there are those that emerge annually, but did you see more than average this year? I can't imagine what I'd do if thousands of those insects were flying around everywhere 😱 😀

They'd better, considering how much they're making us pay for this exam! 😉
I don't think I can survive 5 hrs w/o AC...this reminds me of an essay topic: "people have become enslaved by technology" or something like that; although I'm not sure if AC can be considered technology...😛

The cicadas came out in the summer of 2004. They were literally everywhere in Baltimore. Once I was walking outside, and I heard this weird noise. I look behind me, and there's nothing behind me. When I got home, my roommate was like, hey man you have a cicada on the back of your shoulder. No wonder I didn't see anything behind me. You have to watch out sometimes because one might fly into your face, which is kinda weird. So don't worry, you won't see these until 2021.

However, there IS a 13-year cycle for certain cicadas. Those are the ones you might be talking about.

Although cicadas may follow a 13- or 17-year cycle, the life cycles are concurrent so that not a certain number of individuals come out every year.

Is it worth it to do one or two passages in the morning before I head out to the testing center? Probably won't grade them.. but to get the blood flowing to the brain.

Maybe. If you need a good warm-up to get you going, read a couple passages, look at some review notes, study a couple flash cards, etc. Just make sure you try not to cram the morning of the test. This probably hurts more than it helps.

Just finished My last practice before Saturday

AAMC CBT 9

PS-13 VR-10 BS-11 34

To make myself feel better if i wouldnt have accidentally clicked the wrong box on a question in PS i would have had a 14, and i made a few stupid errors in BS, but i also found a few of the BS passages fairly challenging (dialysis and Osteoblatin) what about yall??

O well, hoping for a 45 on the real deal, but would be happy with a 34 as long as nothing is below a 10

Just got to make sure to cut out all the stupid mistakes on test day.

good luck Yall!🙂 (mayo/wake hopeful!)

😱 I'd totally freak out if I had a cicada on my back! It's like a stalker!:scared:

I think doing a passage or two is a good idea 🙂 It'd definately help me concentrate for the real thing.👍

30 is my goal for saturday.

i realized that my biggest problem with verbal was making out of scope assumptions with some of my answers.

just checked out my test site: nice lady working the front desk, air conditioned, paper to write on for the exam, flat keyboard, laser mouse. the only negative is that there is a single bathroom with only one stall. I'm using the ladies room if the men's is occupied (sorry ladies)
