I'm sure there is some level of implicit bias based on physical attractiveness but it's probably more important to appear professional and well-groomed.

Your level of physical attractiveness influences your chances at life. Being tall, but not freakishly tall, helps, too. Even if it somehow didn't directly effect your admissions interviewer, your attractiveness has had an impact on every relationship and social situation you have ever been in your entire life, so will have a huge impact on the rest of your experiences, identity, and application.

I'm not saying it's right, but it's true.

I agree. But in terms of getting into medical I'm sure professionalism is more important.

It does OP. Look at studies where peoples intelligence and other traits were rated by attractiveness

Yes as some have said above... physical attractiveness plays a large but seemingly subtle role in just about everything throughout our lives.

Alternatively, I pursued being a male gigolo in Miami because I couldn't cut it in Medicine!
It was a long road ahead of me. Too much involved in facial reconstruction, gym workouts, and beach diets requiring years of commitment and money to repair my self-image. I thought medical school would be more interested in the inner folds of my cortex, but I guess one must embrace their outer folds first before they can be accepted for the deeper linings that are deeper than skin deep.

Definitely. Not just attractiveness but every way which you present yourself added to the interviewers internal and unrecognized biases will factor in to the impression you make. Humans are not rational creatures, nor should we be, as hard as we try to be objective about serious things.

Absolutely. Your attractiveness influences nearly every aspect of your success in life, whether it's obvious or not. Amongst my friends, some of us are very attractive and some of us are bleeping ugly. Guess which ones had the most success getting into medical school? Not saying I agree with it, just stating my observations.

I think being attractive probably helps you a lot, but not only from interviewers and the attractiveness halo effect.

Rather, imo attractive people have a much easier time becoming socially confident as they grow up. Obesity, acne scars, strange facial features etc might bring bullying and rejection that stops you from becoming charismatic - only feeling comfortable in introverted settings probably hurts you more than any subconscious bias in your interviewer.

@efle I find that more often than not the attractive people in my area tend to be the ones who are hungry for benzodiazepines, antidepressants, and anti-mania medications. Being attractive may reinforce and bring out some positive innate characteristics, but I'd like to think that the grinder of life spins everyone hard enough that features like confidence/charisma come out in those that have the grit to still smile at the end of a hard day. And the features that contribute to that grit comes from good upbringing, a moral sense of responsibility, and an understanding that every day is a hustle to come out with a slightly bigger piece of the bacon than you had the day before.

What about people who are overweight? I don't think I've seen more than one or two overweight people total in all the med school class photos I've seen.

Wait, none of your 'unattractive' friends got into med school? Were their stats similar amongst your friends?

Attractiveness is holistic in its admission criteria

I didn't say none of my less attractive friends got accepted. I just stated that as a general trend the more attractive ones seemed to have better success. As far as stats go, there was a reason we all sort-of gravitated to each other in undergrad. We were the intellectual elite of our university. Birds of a feather flock together. All of us were competitive in regards to MCAT and GPA.

How do you feel knowing clegane bowl isn't happening?

Just because it isn't happening this season doesn't mean its not happening. Fact is that this hype will never die as long as Sandor and Gregor are alive. Now if you excuse me I have to go eat every ****ing chicken in my house.

You don't think it's possible for an overweight person to be attractive?
To certain people sure. But however subjective people argue attraction is, there are some very objective measures of attractiveness. One of them is weight / fitness level.

So if you put Halle Berry's face on a chubby body, she'd be unattractive? In a different era or culture, the zaftig woman would be considered much more attractive than a skinny woman. Weight/fitness level is not an objective measure of attractiveness.

To your first question, yes if she was big enough that I would consider her "chubby" she would not be attractive to me.. And a different era/ culture is irrelevant to the discussion. We are talking about 21st century U.S. here. Obviously there are exceptions where different people have different tastes, but for the vast majority of people overweight = less attractive. This isn't anything new..

Yes, because her face would be chubby, too. And we're talking about this day and age and yes, it is. EDIT: Just want to hold this 100% holds true for men, too.

I'm ugly as sin and I got in.
But some sin feels so good.

Do you know what is the most attractive quality a person can have? Confidence

not really, confident 3/10s don't usually date and marry 7+/10s.

To answer your question basically yes it will take you from prospective to projected in most aspects of life. How does it feel to be good looking with nice teeth, hair and eyes; chin and facial hair also rugged? I will tell you coupled with biceps cut like diamonds, pecs visible from outer space and road map vascularity it feels good. I don't really give a **** about my grades n ECs n I doubt adcommes will either. Particularly if there are female adcommes I garentee an acceptance if they are Mr. Feeny types who knows. Open to discussion on this.
