Ok. I apologize in advance if there is a post somewhere on this subject.

My question, to those who know, not just opinions....... How many shadowing, and service hours are sufficient ?

Are applicants with 1000+ hours of service or shadowing seen as competive or ridiculous? Are some of these applicants lying about how many shadowing, service hours ?

What types of service are attractive to schools ?

I served a two year LDS mission where on a weekly basis I performed 4 hours of service a week, from working in a soup kitchen, manual labor, helping in resthomes, hospitals. (before starting school) Can I count those service hours on my application ? I do have references and documentation to back it.

Personally I think you want 100-150 shadowing hours. I know of at least a couple schools that have requirements as high as 100 hours, but if you have at least that you should be good.

1000+ service hours is great, but that's really high. You really don't need that many to be competitive. I think you'd be better off doing a ~200-250 meaningful service hours and saving time to keep your grades up.

While schools most schools respect LDS missions and view them as a great commitment to service, I'm not sure that they're necessarily included in your amount of service hours. They want to see that even after your mission you're still committed to service.

These are just my personal opinions. Anyone else?
