My classmates found out a fellow classmate is a registered sex offender. How does this make you feel that a registered sex offender can earn a PharmD and have access to many types of drugs? Also, would you report him to the dean of your school or do nothing???

Midwestern does criminal background tests. You should know that since you have to sign the paper before they let you be a student. The administration likely knows the nature of his crime. There are many things that a person can be considered a sex offender for...not necessarily he date raped a girl or molests small children. It could be something more along the lines of pornography or something lesser like that. I guess without knowing the exact crime it is hard to say whether he should be able to move on with his life past it and get a PharmD.

If it's bothering you so much then look it up online. Your local police department probably has an online search available for sex offenders (For Chicago: http://12.17.79.4/ ) otherwise, call the local police dept and ask about him if you're absolutely bent on trying to start drama... unless he offered to baby sit your kids out of nowhere. Also, many universities will actually list online all sexual offenders that attend or work at the school. If he managed to get into pharm school, it's probably a 17f/18m age situation... or public exposure while partying.

meh i don't care as long as he doesn't have sex with someone during work and he doesn't do anything that can take away his licence.

I never said I was going to do anything, if you read my post, I was just posing a question. Also, I wouldnt post anything on here if I wasnt sure he was a sex offender. If my university is fine with letting a registered sex offender attend school to get his pharmd, fine, but i dont have to agree with it either, it does bother me that he got in though, since pharmacy school is so competitive to get in and there are many other people that deserve his spot. If it was somebody that got arrested with drugs, and only harming themselves, i'm sure they wouldnt be in pharmacy school. And also, the crime happened 3 years ago when the dude was 29 and the crime is listed as: AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE/VICTIM 13-16. That doesnt sound like a 17f/18m age situation or something that doesnt sound too serious. And i'm kind of disappointed in the posts so far that many people dont find this to be a problem with them especially when potentially this dude can have access to drugs to do whatever with.

What do you expect? Your first post was very vague as far as the offense and the guy's description. Bring it up with the dean if you feel he shouldn't be practicing pharmacy. Instead of jumping to conclusions, find out what admissions knows that you don't as far as why he's deserving to go to pharm school.

Like KARM12 said, the admin knows of the situation because of his background check. Frankly, I don't think it's much of your business to second guess admissions on why certain people are admitted over other applicants (they may actually tell you this in one way or another)... but if it'll quiet the rumor mill, they might let you know their reasons.

29 yr old guy goes to a 21 and up club. He spies a hottie slamming drinks at the bar. Musters the courage to go talk to her. Guy ends up taking her home and they have consensual mad monkey sex. Girl gets pregnant. Police knock on the guys door and arrest, charge, and convict this guy. He is now a sex offender.

Doesn't matter that she had a fake ID that night.

Whoever this guy is, he served his time. No one here knows the circumstances so quit being judgemental.

Please don't post pornographic images, even if they are cartoons. Thanks.

"mad monkey sex" occurs in front of children every day at zoos, I didn't think it was that pornographic. I just did a google image search to see what the previous poster was talking about, sorry. I should have posted a woman shaking her half naked ass or change my avatar to a xray of a bottle shoved up an ass, that would have been more appropriate.

If it hadn't shown an actual organ it would have been okay. The line is pretty much drawn based on what is safe for work.

I'm not sure why being a sex offender means they shouldn't be around drugs all day, but ok? I know someone that is registered as a sex offender because he got tanked at a club one night and urinated in an alley, Pee-ing in public technically is a sex offense. It is also possible that this person was a 18 yr old senior in highschool dating a freshman or sophmore who was under 16, and the parents got them for statutory rape.
Its one thing when someone molests children, but you need to know the nature of their crime before you decide how you really feel.

As soon as you earn a position at your school's board of directors, your opinion might actually matter.

Until then my suggestion is to concern yourself with your own business.

The fact your pharm school has admitted him speaks volumes, the offence must have been of a nature that is unlikely to affect his professional standing or his patients or anything else for that matter. A 'sex offence' can constitute anything from mooning to child rape. Obviously, one is more serious than the other but under the sex offenders register they are both considered to be the same.

I understand people consider pharm school competitive (so why does a sex offender have a place, you ask?) but the issue of a criminal record is considered totally separately from an individuals application during the scoring process. His application would have been scored on its merits and then a fitness to practice comittee would have discussed whether his record would likely influence his abilities. 2 seperate issues, don't confuse them 🙂

Right on. I have a friend who got caught peeing in a bush outside a bar when he was 22 and he is now a registered sex offender and - get this - lost his teaching certification. I personally think that's crap.

I think people who can't get laid are most obsessed with sex offence and similar stuff.
