First time applicant, DACA, Hispanic, not URM, FL resident
sGPA: 3.61
cGPA: 3.68
BA in Chemistry with Public Health minor, graduated May 2018

Will be taking a gap year and will be working full-time as a research assistant starting this August in the ER and part-time as a ER scribe (been doing it for 2 years already)
  • 2000hrs (2 full years) as a Scribe in the ER
  • 750hrs (1 year) as a patient transporter -- hired by the hospital, so real direct patient contact
  • 75hrs / 1 semester of research in the ER (last semester of undergrad) Collected data for an observational study of the ER physician-patient interaction and as well as interviewed ER GSW patients views on gun-policy, and analyzed the data
  • 240hrs shadowing surgery (2 weeks rotations in breast surgery, cardiothoracic, and plastics), which was part of a summer program where a presented a case of my choosing at the end of program
  • 100hrs working as a paid tutor for a tutoring company
  • 50hrs as a peer leader for 2 sections of General Chem II
  • 6 months working part time at a retail store
  • 1 semester of Public Relations Officer for my schools health club
  • 150hr (for EC activities category) Member of my Phi Delta Epsilon chapter for 2 years, was involved in various philanthropies ** (Did non-clinical volunteering through the city with the organization, probably totalling around 20-30hrs. 100% my weakest section of my application.) overall, I gained more leadership than anything else.
I am scheduled to take the MCAT end of July, and will be continuing with the application if I score at least a 510.

Even if I do, I was wondering if I should start thinking about skipping this cycle, and apply next year? Considering my non-clinical volunteering is not as strong as the rest of my application, but I do have a significant amount of clinical experience.

BUT! I will be volunteering for a week long summer camp in July as a camp counselor (before my MCAT) [add on 60hrs for non-clinical] , may or may not be in the application though, but can talk about it in the interview

As for my MD school list, have not really looked past my top 2, as I am DACA:
Loyola
University of Miami

Your EC's are good. It is the late application that could be more of a problem. You will not receive your MCAT score until late August. So you will not be able to submit your secondaries until mid September and the September and many October interview slots will already be filled. Post your score here when available.
