Are any other engineers having major problems with the AACOMAS calculations of their science GPA?

Even though AACOMAS says:

SCIENCE GPA: is calculated based on these Course Subject GPA categories:Biochemistry, Biology/Zoology, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Other Science.

& Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering all are listed under this Other Science category verification refuses to calculate it into my sGPA. They sent me an email today with a list of things that they use to calculate the sgpa and biomedical engineering is factored in but somehow bioengineering and engineering are not? I don't understand how any of this makes sense and I'm majorly freaking out.

Again, I'm a bio engineer so more than half of my coursework is not being factored and instead of the 3.25 I feel that I earned they are giving me a 3.07....

I spent all that money applying to schools and now I feel like it was a total waste and like I barely have a shot anymore.

They should atleast honor what they say in their instructions. Engineering is listed under "Other Science" on their instructions but won't include it in your sGPA? That's some BS. This new app system is total fail. @gonnif

Well, I would contact AACOMAS to fix your sGPA. They will do it don't worry.

I've been in contact with them for the past two weeks...verification sent me these emails:

We have looked into your GPA and it is listed correctly via the standards AACOM
wanted us to calculated. While engineering is considered Other Science in the
subject GPAs, it’s goes into Non Science for the cumulative GPAs. So the GPA is
correct according to the AACOM standards they signed off on.

Wait...what?? How does that make sense. LOL!

That is completely wrong. I would ask for someone higher up to fix this for you.

So it goes science for subject GPA but not for cumulative GPA? That doesn't make sense at all

What does subject gpa even mean

They are saying to contact each school if I still have an issue but I'm like dude I applied to 20 schools...

What is the list of things they sent you that they use to calculate sGPA?

It would blow my mind if it's any different than what is listed in the instructions. Aka everything under other science, biochem, physics, etc.

AACOMAS Instructions are poorly written and very misleading.
It's crystal clear in the instructions that anything in the categories OP listed, including "other sciences" are factored in towards science GPA. I don't feel like quoting it, but it's extremely straightforward

Right, I agree. But then they are not following those instructions. So they are misleading.

I mean, they should've at least updated their instructions and faqs so it doesn't say engineering in other sciences if it wasn't going to be factored into the sGPA.

Yeah, for sure. They need to get it together. The email OP quoted that they sent made absolutely no sense.

I'm half expecting to see my gpa at like a 2.0 after they're done with it.

So no one has heard of any similar problems? & how they got resolved? I'm planning on demanding to speak to management tomorrow but other than that I feel like I'm stuck

Also I'm not sure why biomedical engineering is a science but bioengineering science isn't? Like I could call my bioengineering biomedical because they have biomedical applications but because they weren't specifically in the biomedical department I didn't call them that.

Yes, you can ask stepanopolus and she may be able to help too. I think she also contacted AACOM directly too.

Can you give us the list that they gave you of course they counted when verifying?

It's an excel sheet...is there any way to attach that on here? OOO or I can put it on a google doc! Give me a second

I can take a look too. I'll PM you my gmail so you can share.

EDIT:
Actually, you can upload the file on here.

Wow...yeah so engineering they did remove it as sGPA.

But I called them specifically before I turned my app to ask whether engineering would be calculated as part of the sGPA and they said it would according to the website. & Why is this random excel sheet different from the official website?

& If I had this sheet before I turned everything in I could just be like yes this is biomedical engineering not just engineering. UGH frustration

There seem to be a few other discrepancies on that list too. For example, health and emergency med tech appear as other science on the instructions, but not towards sGPA on that list. I'm sure there are a few more...
They REALLY should not be having such discrepancies between what they say and what they do. This and their retake policy confusion, it's just not fair to applicants.

If this list is indeed officially from AACOMAS I see some discrepancy in their instructions and faqs vs. this list.

You should appeal with them again and ask why is it listed on their instructions and not corrected?

Also. What is biobehavioral health??? If I classify psych as a biobehavioral health they would take it???

They will just reclassify your psych class as psychology.

I just meant to say that by having this major discrepancy and all these weird classifications the system doesn't make sense. It can seriously screw people over (me) or be used for other people's advantage.

Yeah...well my GPA is screwed too because of that letter grading system AACOMAS sticks to without checking to see if other schools go by a different lettering system with different GPA values.

Yeah but like you said it's listed as OTHER SCIENCE so therefore should be calculated into sGPA...wtf

Here it is!
I noticed a lot of discrepancies as well. One that stood out the most, Horticulture which is specifically listed as non science in the instructions and listed as Science in this excel sheet. This is ridiculous, I haven't submitted my app yet and now I'm worried they will calculate my gpa wrong and send it out to all the schools with no way for me to argue with AACOMAS.

I hear you...I have a PharmD and I thought this new incorporation would benefit me, but not if they're reneging. I'm getting verified with a throw away school first just to see what my gpa is befor I move forward with other of my apps I'm serious about

Edit: AwayFromReality: I suggest you try this too- pic a school you would never go to or has heavy IS pref and get verified first. Then see what your gpas are

Update:

1. I called the hotline & asked to speak to a manager. The manager/supervisors name is Michelle and she is very nice and understanding, so ask for her. After explaining my situation and probably sounding close to tears she understood the discrepancy and took my number & said she would talk to the big guys.

2. Michelle called me back and said they fixed part of my problem by changing some of the classifications I had from bioengineering >> biomedical engineering (although both of these are listed under Other Sciences, the verification team was told to only calculate biomedical engineering towards the sGPA)

3. I protested and said what about all the other applicants & fellow engineers who are following what is outlined on the website & whose sGPAs are messed up? It's not fair to us to basically lie to us about what will be used in the calculations. The discrepancy needs to be solved. Michelle agreed and told me she would again make phone calls & get back to me later today.

I am still waiting for her phone call. Basically, complain & kick & scream & cry until someone listens to you because if they are going against the policy clearly outlined on their published website they are in the wrong.

I suggest also looking at this thread for additional advice/help/info:

Update:

Michelle just called back! She said the vice-president and the development team have all been notified and are working to resolve the issue aka count all those classes that are listed under other sciences towards the sGPA like the website clearly states they should be.

Yeah but I will be applying with a fee waiver which I believe will only work with my first submission.
