A couple of years ago I shadowed a general physician. I was not paid. So obviously it won't go under dental experience, so do you think this should be under work experience or volunteer/EC ?

Personally, I wouldn't include it in my application.

dental experience
I seriously hope you would have enough common sense to work through this question. Why in this world would you include physician shadowing in your AADSAS application? You need to find a roommate, and have him/her slap you across the face.

hey,
I'm not saying that it doesn't FIT under the extra-curricular section, I'm saying that you shouldn't include it in your application at all. It is both inappropriate and irrelevant to include shadowing of an MD/DO in a dental school application.
What authority are you to say what is inappropriate and irrelevant in a dental school app? I agree that this is a fairly silly question from the OP, but it is not irrelevant or inappropriate to include this in a dental school app. The OP has spent time shadowing healthcare professionals in his/her path to decision making. They have decided to pursue dentistry and can now say "I chose dentistry and not medicine because...".
I think you should have your roommate proofread your posts before you are allowed to hit the submit button.
Luckily (for me, i guess 🙂 ) SDN doesn't require authority to provide opinion on threads. I guess I should have said that I personally wouldn't include it in my application. I actually was in a similar position to the OP, and chose not to include it based off the opinion of two friends who were successful in applying to dental school and two of the dentists I shadowed.
Good Luck, OP... I'm sure you'll be fine either way, it was just my opinion.
