I'm really interested in shadowing a urologist, but I would imagine that it would be kind of awkward to do so for obvious reasons. Has anyone had any experience shadowing a urologist or other specialties where privacy would be more of an issue? Do you think a urologist would be receptive to allowing a pre-med to shadow?

yeah, urology is awesome. Its not that awkward, especially if you are a guy.

I don't see what the big deal is? Afraid to see a penis? I'm sure you'll see many.

Shouldn't be a problem, most patients probably won't mind. I shadowed a GI doc and every patient was fine with me in the room during procedures/physicals.

i shadowed a GI doc as well, and people were surprisingly ok with having an extra in the room for a physical exam. if someone feels less than fine with it, the doc'll just ask you to leave for a few mins, no harm no foul.

I shadowed an OB/GYN for several months, and very few patients requested that I not be allowed into the exam room. If an OB/GYN was receptive to being shadowed (he was an awesome doc to shadow, too), then I'm sure you can find a receptive urologist.
