Hi everyone, I graduated college this May and am currently working as a scribe in the ER. I go with the physicians to get the history from the patient, and then I follow the diagnostic studies and put them in the chart.

I know that this is counted as clinical experience, but I'm also looking to shadow other fields as well. My question is, how do I go about doing this after I've graduated college? I know a lot of physicians are wary because of potential HIPAA violations, and I don't know if they're less willing because I'm no longer a student.

Any advice would be great, thanks.

It's really no different. Just explain that you're trying to apply to medical school.

I'm in the same position as you. I have not yet asked to shadow, but I'm assuming already being a volunteer/technician within the clinic gives you a better chance of actually getting to shadow.

I would ask a nurse or nurse manager, that is what I plan on doing : )

Being a student doesn't shield you from dealing with HIPPA. I had to sign HIPPA forms for all my shadowing experiences. You are a college grad interested in applying to medical school and you would like more experience...that's all you have to say! 🙂
