Basically, I can shadow a foreign acupuncturist for about 50 hours over the summer. Basically 8 hrs for 6 weeks, maybe 3 hrs each Sat/Sun.

However, my advisor said not to do it, because it's "alternative medicine"...I thought it would not only be a good experience but I was going to use it to say that I explored an alternative medicinal field.

So should I do it / not?

Stick to allopathic medicine for med school applications.

Thanks guys. I'll tell the person I had a change of mind.

Is your only purpose for doing this so you can say "I don't want to be an acupuncturist" in interviews and stuff? That seems pretty dumb to spend so much time doing that. Or are you seriously considering this instead of medicine?

This. Unless your experiences reflect heavy prior interest/involvement in a field, you probably won't get "why medicine instead of massage therapy?" or anything of the sort. Stick to shadowing real docs.
