When I was shadowing
I was able to take some vitals/ logistics (B.P, weight, height) for some patients under the guidance of my physician after observing him for a couple days.
I also had a crash course in scribing and was able to do scribe for 2 patients the week after.

I wanted to include those activities, but when I was searching around I read that it could be viewed negatively due to legal issues (ie. malpractice?)

If that's the case, should I omit this? and if I do how do I go about describing the experience?

I've written up a reflection/what I learned, but just need to figure how to make it sound less passive.

Don't mention the clinical work you did (vitals, etc.) because it's patient care without appropriate licensing and credentialing.

Your meaningful experience blurb will mean a whole lot more if it's about an activity that required you to give of yourself in the service of others. Think about your volunteering experiences and what they meant to you.

Physician shadowing is supposed to be a passive observational activity. There is still much to be learned from watching how the doctor interacts with the patients and what activities fill their day, but most do not reflect on their shadowing experience, but that's not to say the YOU can't make it a Most Meaningful experience and describe your insights and impact.

Thanks for the advice,
about your second point, are you suggesting I forgo this as a meaningful experience and use one of my volunteer experiences instead?

Thank you as well for the input!

So I'm trying to figure out how to break that up on my AMCAS under description and why it's meaningful.

Coming from a disadvantage background and working with a physician treating individuals in similar situation, was very meaningful to me as it gave me a perspective of my future endeavor to work in these types of areas. I've reflected and talked about what I learned and kinda went over in characters.

I'm not too sure what to write up on the 700 character description. Do I just talk about what I observed? Instead of what I did? (mostly note taking and then researching on my own time prescriptions/diagnosis/prognosis).

Damn autocorrect is trying to ruin my life. I just made a few edits to my original post.

As @Catalystik said, your most meaningful experience can be whatever you want it to be. Seeing a volunteering experience described as most meaningful would impress me more than seeing shadowing in that spot, but that's just one man's opinion.

Something like: "Observed Dr G. in his private office and during hospital rounds. Discussed some of the interesting cases and treatments and read up on them later. Got to see a toenail extraction."

Don't feel compelled to fill the space. Keep it succinct. Adcomms know what shadowing consists of.

As of right now, my current meaningful experiences are: non-clinical volunteer, shadowing, and research.
I could switch shadowing with my Nursing home volunteer experience, but I have less hours invested in that so I'm not sure if that would affect it's impact in anyway.

I will keep thing in mind while editing, Thanks!

Much appreciation for the examples!
