Hello,

I am a post-bac at the NIH and interested in getting involved in shadowing at the Clinical Center. I've e-mailed a lot of doctors (and am continuing to do so) but haven't been successful at getting any positive responses yet. Does anyone know of any doctors at NIH that have allowed post-bacs to shadow them? I'm particularly interested in shadowing MD/PhDs, but of course would love to shadow MDs as well. Thanks!

I would just keep trying to email-usually the doctors get so many emails in one day that your email may have ben missed. NIH also has ICU Shadowing, where you can shadow the ICU rounds once a week for a couple hours. You can probably look up the email address online and get in touch with that program. It is pretty cool, and you learn a lot of things.

Thanks for the ideas/suggestions. I didn't know about the ICU shadowing, but I will definitely check that out.

And I'll ask my PI if she has a connection to a doctor, although I'm working in a very basic science lab with little clinical relevance.

Thanks again!

I was an NIH postbac and I had one of the best experiences ever there. Part of it was landing in a lab with fantastic people, but many people I know had very rewarding experiences too. I highly recommend you go there. Good luck!
