How do people shadow when school is going on? I feel like my schedule would not allow me to shadow very much.

Maybe you should do it in the summer. You can do it full time for a week with the same doctor. This way you'll get real experience and maybe a letter of recommendation.

a few hours here, a few hours there; some people are lucky enough to have days without any obligations.

obviously, everyone has different schedules, so find something that works for you. during breaks, as advised, usually works out pretty well.

Like everyone said above, breaks are a great way to get in a solid amount of shadowing. Since I work and go to class full time, it's really the only chance that I have to shadow, plus I can always bank on getting at least 30 hours...helps when I'm trying to estimate the total hours I will end up with.

I would say to just manage your expectations and do ONLY what you can do making certain your grades don't suffer one little bit! (sounds like you have that part down).

Reach out well in advance and you can get lots of shadowing hours taken care of. Start writing emails now for April/May, when school is out.
Same thing in April for after summer session (if you're taking summer classes). Same thing in October for December break. You'd be surprised how I've actually missed opportunities because the only time a group of observers is shadowing is Xmas break, and it's a week before Xmas and they can't fit me in.

Planning is key and you'll be quite relieved and your resume will be all the better!

Well here's the thing tho, my classes don't end until second week of June, and I want my application to be turned in by then, can I shadow in the summer and still some how count it into my application?

From what I've heard, it's a big no-no to put something on your app that you aren't currently doing (unless you have finished it, of course). So no future events. I think those things are best saved for update letters and interviews. So I guess you have a few options, delay submitting your app until you do some shadowing or just tell the schools about it later.

Current is ok as long as you mark it as current.

I'd probably go ahead and include current stuff for those schools that screen pre-secondary.
