Hi guys, quick question...

WHen I list shadowing experiences on AMCAS, am I allowed to say what the types of surgeries were and what types of patients I saw at the hospital, or is it violation of Hippa rules?

ALso, would shadowing fall under the "other" category, or "community sevice/volunteer - medical/clinical" category?

thanks guys....

I would say that you don't really need to list the type of surgeries that you went to watch. If you want, you can use a broad category like, "cardiothoracic surgery" or "orthopedic surgery" if that happens to be an area of interest for you. As long as you don' tuse any patient identifiers, like name or date of birth, I don't think it would be a HIPPA violation.

I think it's more of a medical/clinical experience.
