Hey everyone! I hope I don't offend anyone by asking this question, and please excuse me if I sound ignorant regarding this topic.

Regarding shadowing hours, I have 46 hours recorded. On the application, can I write down that I have 50 hours?

Would you recommend rounding off the hours? Or would it be considered "cheating"? (I don't think any of the doctors I shadowed would mind, in fact they told me that one can only shadow so long until it gets repetitive) I have work experience in the field as well.

Thanks in advance!

If you have to ask, it's probably not the smartest idea. Either be honest or go back and shadow more until you are comfortable with your hours.

On the application, do we have to designate how many hours we shadowed?

I honestly don't think it is going to make much difference to an admission personnel if they saw 46 or 50.

Why would you lie about this? If you're required to have at least 50 hours, it's only another half day.
I'm pretty sure you have to sign somewhere that everything on your application is true...don't round up

This is what I heard, but I heard # of hours isn't that important as long as you feel like you learned enough about optometry and you're 100% this is what you want.

Thanks for all the replies. I was actually able to squeeze in four more hours of shadowing into my schedule, which put me at 50 hours! I was just a little concerned about not having enough hours, but I will be honest on my application and I agree that there really shouldn't be a need to round up anyway🙂
