Shadowing Question

The father of one of my daughter's friends is an EM physician in a local Level I trauma center. I am thinking I should ask if I can shadow him. I haven't shadowed anyone yet, but my wife thinks it may be awkward if it were he that I shadowed. I'm not sure I agree with her, but some outside opinions would be helpful.

To me, it sounds like a pretty normal use of connections to get in touch with a physician to shadow. I'm curious about why your wife thinks it would be awkward? Not trying to bash her but just trying to understand the situation better.

I'm not really sure why my wife feels that way. Our daughters have play dates fairly frequently (~2x a month). I thought it was a good use of a connection, as well. My wife knows the friend's mom pretty well. Wife thinks I should try other people first, and again, I have no idea why (although, he is the only attending physician I know, besides my kids' pediatrician). I guess she thinks it may have some negative impact on my daughter's social life if it doesn't go well 😕 ? Though, I'm not really sure what that means.
