Hi guys,
I'm hoping to get some shadowing in but have a bit of a problem. I really don't know any optometrists. I had an ophthalmologist when I was younger but she's since retired and I can't seem to find her at all.
Anyways, I'm wondering how I can best contact some optometrists to shadow? Seems a bit odd to walk into a practice and just introduce myself. Any suggestions/experiences to share?

Yes it does seem a bit odd but unfortunately the best way to make it happen is to go in an office and introduce yourself. some optometry school do have co-op programs, for ex. suny does, so be sure to apply to those. but yes you will have to go to different offices and just introduce yourself and ask if you could shadow/volunteer with the optometrist to gain experience. thats how i got the opportunity to shadow at three places and im going to take the same approach for the fourth one as well. just dont give up and good luck 😀

Congrats! And thanks a bunch...will def. give it a try. I'm guessing I should dress up and take a resume along?

Unrelated, but is that Shahrukh Khan? 😛

Yes. Even if all you do is walk in, hand them a resume, and turn right around and walk out, you should dress to impress. The reception/whomever you hand a resume may take notice of how you come across and report it to the doctor before handing over your resume. Also include a nice cover letter explaining what it is you're trying to achieve here. Even though you may convey your story to the reception, I wouldn't trust them to represent you when passing along the resume.

Yep dress nice and bring a resume 🙂
mewcakes is right about the reception, they might just immediately tell you no just because they don't know what you're referring to so if that happens just ask if you could speak to the optometrist directly.

yes thats shahrukh khan. i like live for him .... lol 😍
