Hi, I want to shadow a pediatrician this fall. There are a few things I'm not sure about. Firstly, are you supposed to shadow a doctor for his whole shift or do you choose the hours you shadow him? Secondly, what are you supposed to wear? Like would wearing a button down dress shirt and dress pants be good (male)? Lastly, this is the only doctor that I am able to shadow. How many hours should I make sure to get in and is it bad if I only shadow one doctor? Im sorry if there are other threads about this but the ones I saw either didnt related to my situation or didnt give clear answers. Thanks.

The is no standardized rule for shadowing hours, it will depend on what this physician is willing to do. I did an 8 hour day with a pediatrician. Some people have a recurring date (e.g. Friday afternoons for a month). If you are only shadowing one physician, you will need more hours from that one physician. Why can't you shadow more physicians?

That sounds fine to wear.

1. Depending on your relationship with the physician, you may be able to shadow for the whole workday (more beneficial imo). Otherwise, make sure to agree upon how many hours you'll be shadowing for.

2. Business casual works. Again, this is something you should ask the physician.

3. I'd shoot for at least 20. Shadowing one physician is not bad, but I'd try to find at least one or two more.
