Hello everyone!
I know that a lot of programs prefer/require shadowing hours in different settings so I was curious if doing inpatient and outpatient rehab counts as different settings if it's in the same building (hospital setting) or if I should find an additional place to shadow for 20 hours or so to get the variety schools are looking for.

Thanks 🙂

These should count as different places of observation. However, it probably wouldn't hurt to find some more places to observe. Or gaining experience with a different age group such as pediatrics. The more shadowing that you do the more that class material will make sense to you as you work through the program!

That's what I was thinking! I was going to look for a pediatric setting like you suggested since the majority of the patients I've been observing are geriatric. It definitely wouldn't hurt. Good to know about inpatient/outpatient though. Thanks for the reply 🙂

Hi all,
Are hospital settings looked at more favorably when volunteering, than other settings? I have the opportunity to volunteer at a well known hospital, but found out they do not write letter of rec's as a policy. Thus, I'm on the fence.

I don't think so. Schools just want to see you've gotten different experiences. If you want to do hours there but they don't write recs, I would do the bulk somewhere that does. And maybe do some at the hospital just for variety.
