A doctor. But if it's between that and no hosptial experience at all, is it better to do that?

Not much better than nothing.

Go shadow a doctor.

Any easy way to go about that exactly? Should I just call doctors?

Ask the nurse if s/he knows any doctors who'd let you shadow them?

I think shadowing a doctor would be best.

You can try the DO list but I've never had any luck: http://www.do-online.org/iLearn/home.cfm

You can try to contact your own doctors and see if they will either 1) let you shadow them, or 2) know of anyone who they might be willing to let you shadow. So far all of my shadowing (~63 hours over 3 specialties) has been through this route.

Find some of the local medical societies and see if they have a mentor list or anything.

You could just show up at a hospital and follow them around a while until someone notices and asks you to leave.

I asked my own pediatrician if she knew anyone, and ended up just shadowing her at her private practice and at the hospital..

Also was able to do some shadowing through the volunteer dept at the hospital i used to volunteer at

3rd experience came from just randomly calling private practices near me, found a great doc to shadow for a while

those are prob the 3 best routes to take

my first one was just shadowing my doctor

2nd was a friend of a relative of the family I nannied for- and that physician set me up with multiple people in her department (including herself) and I am now researching with during my summer after MSI

I heard that it's good to shadow both. But obviously more useful to you to shadow a doctor.
