Looks like Cleveland Clinic is topping the lists for the last half who replied to this thread. Topped mine too... Great facilities, specialty coverage (most of the neuro big wigs are there), nice EMR, and support staff galore (= you do real medicine/neurology). Miami was a favorite on this thread, but I heard they are too volume overloaded with their county hospital (scutwork galore), too many carib students (not my cup of tea), and, last but not least, NO EMR at Jackson... these all threw me way off.

Perhaps.

I think out of the 29 people that posted, only one ranked cleveland first. Three people ranked it 2nd. UCLA is 1st the most (4times), then Yale, Penn and Mayo (3). I think UCLA appears on the most lists (11), then Partners (10), Emory and Cleveland (8).

So the statement that Cleveland is first on about half is only wrong by a factor of about 15.

It is, of course, a bit easier to maintain a good average if the program is only on 3 (UCSF) or 4 (Penn) lists a.o.t around 10 (Partners, UCLA).

But perhaps these programs were selective in their invites so they can be high on this list! 🙂

I have read in other forums that people comment on "who knows if the spots are really real" and the like --- namely that NRMP shows the unmatched spots and due to some error, those spots are not actually there but posted as such. I have a hard time believing a top 10 program in any book like Columbia would have 4 unmatched out of 5. Maybe everyone who ranked Columbia ranked the 4 year position and people forgot to rank the 3 year position? It just defies logic here that other far lesser NYC programs went full and Columbia had 1 of 5? Has to be a mistake.

history shows that sometimes hottie programs (and pds) don't rank enough candidates and this goes down. too bad columbia...

Instead of doing a mean, you should be doing a median ranking. What does a rank of 2.2 mean since there is no 2.2 spot. A median ranking should have been given or hell, even the mode.
