Shelf exams at LECOM

Hi everyone

I had a quick question about whether LECOM administered shelf exams after each rotation or if they did it for select rotations. If you're not from LECOM, how does your osteopathic school handle this?

This is probably a stupid question but are there final exams for medical school courses or is it just comprised of weekly tests?

I'm an MS-1 at LECOM-Erie and I know that we have a shelf exam for Anatomy. We generally have a quiz or exam each week (first 12 weeks) that has anatomy, histology, and embryology on it. I don't think we have a shelf exam for embryo or histo, but they these subjects are on all of our anatomy exams.

There are three major exams and all these courses are comprehensive in that questions from previous topics are fair game on future exams, although I do not know to what extent they ask old questions since we have only had one major exam. The three major exams for anatomy are divided up into 1. Back/Upper-Limbs/Lower-Limbs, 2. BodyCavities (thorax & Abdomen), and 3. Head & Neck (lots of detail here).

I have no idea how the shelf exams are administered in the third and fourth years, although I know they exist.

Lecom gives it's own fp and psych exam after the rotations. You take the usmle shelf exams after IM, OB, Peds, Surg.

You have two chances to pass the exam, if you are unsuccessful you will repeat the rotation.

At LECOM, are there shelf exams only during the 3rd year or do they also occur during the 4th year, and if they do what rotations have the shelf exams?

third year only, 4th year you will be taking step two. you take IM, Peds, Ob and surg.

I don't know about Erie, but we were told that Lecom-Bradenton would probably have a 5th shelf exam next year. Don't know which one, though.
