Am I screwed?

I received the Davis secondary on 8/11/05.

Today is 9/11/05.

Their instructions say "All materials requested by the Admissions Committee must be received on or before 30 days from the date a secondary application was requested. After this date, your application may be withdrawn from further consideration without the requested secondary materials. "

I'm ****ed, aren't I? Does this mean that my application is already withdrawn? Can I send it in today?

ARGGGH. this blows.

Kind of obvious follow up question....Why didn't you send it in by the deadline? I am sure you have had deadlines before.

Call on Mon. and see if they will extend.

So obviously, according to the directions you are arsed out! However, never assume that this rule is not bendable. Call and find out if you can still turn it in. And if they say no KEEP MOVING!!!!!!!!
You will be fine! Good luck and God Bless!

This might end up being a hard mistake to live with. Just make sure you learn from it.
Good Luck!

from what i've heard, the UC's are pretty strict with their deadlines... call them to make sure and good luck!

If you don't have anything better to say, don't say anything. Don't be such an dingus. You're not my father.

I guess it will be me since I have already taken the brunt of it from the OP.

yeah or maybe he isn't a big fan of "being smacked down with brutal honesty," (gag) isn't that the way it went?

nope. Brett was asking a legitimate question. What was his reason for missing the deadline. people can be depressed, simply forgot, etc.

his misfortune is an opportunity for the rest of us to learn. So is the glass half empty or half full? It is entirely up to you to interpret the question.

if you read Brett's other responses, he is not malicious.

Sweet - one less competitor for Davis. :meanie:

I'm only kidding. Give them a call tomorrow, but don't get your hopes up - I know Davis has a reputation for being strict with requirements/deadlines.

ok, so the same thing happened to me because I thought, "oh, a month deadline" and wrote on my calendar that it was due a month later. this was over the summer, and i was leaving on vacation...so I sent in my LORs and fee payment and then kind of waited on the rest of it, then had to scramble when I realized my mistake.

I'm kinda guessing this is what happened to you...its not a month deadline, but a *30 day deadline* so its kind of easy to forget exactly what date it is due. be easy on the OP! call Davis tomorrow and explain yourself...

geez, I asked why s/he didn't get it in by the deadline. It was not malicious and could have in fact been ignored.

I also said like everyone else to give them a call. Jeepers.

yea, everyone really needs an appointment calendar specifically for med school admissions: application deadlines, interviews, etc. It will keep you more organized and motivated. and always write yourself a reminder about a week before the deadline to prevent a rushed job.

TO THE OP:
call davis tomorrow. i know for a fact that UCI's 30 day limit is totally bendable (mine is due today and i haven't gotten it in yet). i called UCI's office of admissions and they said that its still early so they weren't gonna keep me to the 30 day deadline. UCD may be different but you never know.

turns out i fvcked up...er...you fvcked up. stupid brett, how could you let something like this happen to me, huh?? a 30-fvcking-day deadline...c'mon!! what the hell were you doin?? how could you have been so negligent? 😡 tsk tsk tsk...you better call them for me tomorrow...

Take a deep breath, calm down, and ask yourself: do you really want to go to UC Davis? Or are you like most Californians and just applying because it's one of your state schools? If you are merely applying because it's the thing to do and it's one of 20 schools you've applied to (since I'm assuming you're a Californian), then maybe it's not such an awful transgression. Just remember to turn in the secondaries of your top-choice schools on time. 🙂

On the other hand, if UCD is really high on the list of schools you want to go to, turn in your secondary ASAP. Write the essays tonight if you can and send it in at the first possible moment. I can vouch for the fact that UCD is pretty darn disorganized in their applications process, though for all their disorganization, they're kind and well-intentioned. It's very doubtful that they'll scrap your application for this. If you're very worried, call the admissions office tomorrow morning: they're very nice people, and they'll tell you what's what.

Chin up. This isn't the end of the world. 🙂
