I graduated from University in US this year, and have 3.63 GPA and 3.37 ish for sGPA. I have a C+ on Organic chemistry and D+ for physics 2. I'm going to retake physics 2 soon. I want to apply this year and have no relevant clinic experience.
My desire school is VCU since i just got married and might be able to apply for in state tuition in Virginia. As a foreigner from China, and hope to get into the dental school.

What are the things I can do to make myself more competitive and get into VCU.

All suggestion and recommendations are appreaciated

During my interview I was asked about any dental-related volunteering I may have done and also a few questions about community service/volunteering. As long as you have enough shadowing hours, I’d focus on the other ECs. Assuming your DAT score is solid.

There’s no real way to guarantee acceptance at a school. Those with much better stats then yourself will get both denied and accepted. My suggestion is apply to a lot of schools with your gpa given that you get 20+ on the DAT. Also some schools offer in state tuition after the first year for those that declare residency. Your focus should be dental related volunteering and studying for the DAT. Good luck!

I'm going to start doing some dental-related volunteering and maybe start shadowing in China for a while. i haven't taken DAT yet and will study hard for that. Thank you 🙂

I will definately study hard for DAT and hopefully get 20+. I worried about my state tuition as I'm not a citizen so it might be more complicated for me. But that's a good thing I can work on

What do you guys think about applying those certificate such as X-Ray?

Waste of time. They don’t weigh certifications heavily. Your time is way better spent volunteering. Try to shadow in the US. For VCU do MOM clinics

Thank you so much 🙂 I'll try to sent them a resume or drop by to figure out the volunteering
