hi all,

yesterday i was having lunch at my undergrad institution and ran into the premed advisor, who has not given consistently good advice in the past. she expressed dismay that i am not regularly calling or writing the schools i haven't heard from. my question is this: given that a school has somehow let me know my app is complete, and that i haven't accomplished anything new and noteworthy since my secondaries went in (although i keep doing research & volunteering), should i be doing anything at this point? i have been hesitant to "bug" schools--if i were them, i would hate to have little ol' neurotic me on the phone every couple of weeks.

i was complete in october at most places. so far i have 2 interview invites, 2 rejections, and 18 haven't heard-from-'ems. i have a lowish gpa (3.4) with some mitigating circumstances, a 35R, and took a very long time to finish undergrad. my lors are great although 2 out of 3 professor letters are from untenured faculty. my activities are pretty good. got one publication and am currently doing public health research during my glide year.

Stay in touch with yourself, and the schools will stay in touch with you! Or even better, at least touch yourself and don't worry so much about what the schools are doing.

i would choose one school that is your top choice (or choose your top few) and write to them - it doesn't have to be all about your activities, it could just be a letter of interest/intent saying why you really want to go to their school. and in that letter you can also remind them of the oh-so-wonderful activities you're involved in🙂

As long as you have gotten notification that you are complete at all the schools then you are okay. Aside from that if you are really worried about why it is taking so long to hear from them once complete then you can get in touch with the schools and find out that status of your application. It is likely that you will be told that your are under review or you are yet to be reviewed. But I wouldn't recommend calling them repeatedly to determine the status. There are so many of us that haven't heard anything from the majority of the schools that we've applied to. As hard as it is try to be patient.

beep, call them. i called one school to check on my app and to ask if there was anything i could do other than wait. i got an interview invite the next day after i had been complete for ages. it could only help. oh, and the school wasn't wake forest.
