Short summary of my resume: 3.67 cumulative GPA, 3.62 science, MCAT 25 (9/8/8), 2,500 hours as an EC medical scribe, not a ton of volunteer hours but have 4-5 unique volunteer experiences accumulating ~100 hours total. I am a Michigan resident and I know that Michigan MD schools all have a strong in state bias, you guys think I should try applying or just stick with AACOMAS this year? Are there private oos MD schools that accept lower MCAT scores? What do you guys think?

Retake the MCAT, get at least a 28 and apply next year. That's if you want to go for MD. For DO, you might be cutting it close but it's worth applying.

With his GPAs, an MCAT of 28 is not high enough to offer much hope. He really needs to break at least a 30.

True, I meant that a 28 is like the bare minimum required, and anything below that is an absolute waste of time and money.

I'm more interested and confident in my chances for DO schools anyways, I think a 28 would nearly secure matriculation into a couple of DO schools, hopefully this cycle. I guess the thread was more for if there are any MD schools that are known for slightly lower MCAT averages (i.e. score of 29-30 something similar) that I would be competitive at if I did score a 28. Thanks for the responses though! I'll probably apply to in state MD schools in addition to my AACOMAS application in the event I do break 30 with an MCAT retake this fall.

I would retake the MCAT, your mcat shuts the door on MD schools and a 25 is low for most DO programs as well. Even a few points can really increase your chances for DO, and a 30+ would open your chances for MD as well.
