Hey everyone,

I just wanted to see what everyone's opinion was on bringing my TV to medical school. I have two hobbies outside of my schooling which are the gym and xbox. I know that I will probably not have time for both, so obviously the fitness wins out. So, is bringing my TV worth it?

Lol yes bring your tv. You’ll have more free time than you think. If you think you’re going to be studying 24/7 non stop every single day you’re mistaken despite what some on SDN would lead you to believe!

Anyone who tells you they don't have tons of free time in medical school is absolutely full of it or goes to a school to avoid like the plague. I have more free time now than when I was working by far.

You should bring your TV to play Xbox and I also recommend going to the gym. Many of your classmates will burn out after 1st year because all they do is grind. Keeping a weekly exercise routine and taking a few hours for xbox per week will allow you to still grind but with less chance of burning out

When you said "should i bring it" - i thought we were talking about starting a fight with someone. Like "bring it on"... anywho. I have my TV here with me. Mostly for background noise and to entertain the kiddo and wife when i'm slaving away on test weekends.

But you have free time to watch it. I didn't dare bring anything that would play games like a xbox or PS. I would of failed out already.

You won’t be able to spend as much time on your Xbox as you do now, but go ahead and bring the TV. Studying will be priority #1 but decompressing is a good thing.

Mental health is important. Videogames are kind of meh for that, but it is way better than nothing! Bring it but be prepared to not spend hours at a time playing your favorite games. You have free time, but in moderation.

Lately, I've been mixing up my lecture watching by chromecasting it. Something about the novelty and freedom to watch lectures at the library on my laptop, at my desk on my desktop, or in the living room on the TV has made my life seem less monotonous and helped me to focus.

I’m a gamer and don’t game very often anymore because i know how quickly 1 hour turns into 6 hours. I have friends that still carve out some time for it though. They most likely have better self control than me. However, if I didn’t watch something random on Netflix or something at the end of the day to unwind, I’d probably go crazy. Bring your TV.

Love my switch, so much easier to just sit down a play game for short periods of time. Everytime i turn on my xbox (once every two months or so) i have some new hour long update to download and by the time its done downloading i dont have time to play anymore lol.

Plus it makes plane rides so much more bearable, 10/10 recommend

I'm in favor of Dark Souls as you might guess. And to echo other people have said on this thread, the switch is pretty baller. I loved having it during the interview cycle, plane rides and hotel rooms and such. And really when you do have quirky little games like Mario that are awesome you can just spend a half hour trying to get a couple more moons, and feel mentally rested, or do a couple races in Mario Kart, or beat a shrine in Zelda. The list goes on. I'm going to be bringing my Xbox One and PS4, but mostly as media devices for my wife. I imagine that when I do game, it will mostly be on the switch for short periods of time. And between the three consoles, even though currently I don't play it as much as the other two, I think that it's the best of the three and if anyone considers themselves an average to moderate gamer especially it is the console for them. You can't beat that portability. Also after doing things like playing some zombies on Call of Duty or hardcore grinding through some Witcher quests, sometimes, even though gaming is supposed to be fun, it can be a little stressful as weird as that sounds. Nintendo has that happy little aspect to it that really does feel more like relaxing, which will be the point of games in med school. I'm definitely rambling....

Hell, I'd rather handle the BS that's figuring out the location of the lesion in the brainstem than making sense out of the hitbox from the stupid gaping dragon and Capra demmon.

And I will master the route of every single artery and their supplies faster than walking through Blighttown.

God I hope they fixed that framerate.

I will seriously consider getting a switch. I’ve been wanting to, but I think this may have been all I needed to hear lol. I will bring my Xbox for Netflix and such, but when I get on to game, my friends can suck me into the depths of gaming, lol.

No, that's EXACTLY why you should play it. That way, if you ever hear students complaining about med school, you make them play Dark Souls so they realize how much easier they have! So you yourself can see how much easier you have if you feel stressed out from med school! In fact, I study to relax from playing Dark Souls!

Same, in moderation! I usually stick with PC games overall. I was never much of a console gamer. I did own a PS4, but ended up using it strictly for Blu-Ray movies so I just got rid of it lol.

Quite the expensive blu-ray player! Lol. I have a MacBook. Not optimal for gaming, but I can get away with some games on it.
