Should I call programs for interviews at this stage?

<y advisor told me that I need a couple backup programs.
I mean I did everything she said and applied to 25% reach 50% within my stats and 25% backback.
So far, I have set up interviews with 4 reach programs and 8 within my stats but none with the backups. So the advsior said I need at least 2-3 backup because you never know, right?
But the problem is I haven't heard back from any of the 8 backup programs I applied to (not even the satellite programs of the main hospital programs from which I receive invites. You know those ones. I'm interviewing at U of XXX - maincampus but the U of XXX - XYZ campus hasn't sent me an invite)

Should I call the programs?
What should I tell them?

This question has been asked several times. Actually there's a thread just a few below this one with the same question. No you should not call programs now. You have 12 interviews already before the Dean's letter has even come out. That's great!

No not a show off. I am just a little paranoid at this stage because of the visa issue. I am a foreign student at an American school.
One program director actually wrote to me about the stupid visa issue. So there is a chance that I won't be able to match because of my visa requirement.
So I was quite ready to start calling places when I read about the interview invites threads knowing that the programs I applied to have been giving out invites for the past month and no love for me (so I seriously don't think they are waiting for my dean's letter)


(I applied to 30+ programs just so you know and I don't even have any red flags in my application)

I don't think you should call now. I think you are also applying for psych, and IMHO, you will probably match with 12 interviews (and you will probably get more interviews).

I feel like PDs at programs that are on the less desirable level know that people apply as backups. If your stats etc are way above what they normally take maybe they just figure why put you up in a hotel, use an interview slot etc on someone who isn't going to come there.

But I agree with the other posters, I'm pretty sure with 12 interviews you will match in pretty much any field.
