Hi everyone,

I just graduated from a top 4 liberal arts college in New England, double majoring in Biology and Economics. Starting in July, I will be working for a health economics research/advisory firm in the Boston area. I have recently been entertaining the idea of going to medical school, and want to ask you if a Post-Bac will help me get in, or will it be a waste of my time?

My overall GPA is 3.223, BCPM GPA is 3.009, and BCPM GPA (w/ 4 Biology independent study courses) is 3.246. Will my independent research courses be included in my real BCPM GPA, and does Psychology 101?

I have taken 1 semester General Chemistry (B), 2 semesters General Biology (B-/A-), 1 semester introductory Physics (B-), 1 semester Organic Chemistry (C). And of course, several other Biology courses. During my time I have spent 4 semesters & 2 summers performing Biology research on campus, and will be co-authoring a paper this summer. I studied abroad, have several start-up internships, was president of a campus club, and volunteered during my time on campus.

I am living very close to Harvard, and know they have a good Post-Bac program. If I do well, will I be able to get into a decent/low-tier medical school or even UMass Medical School?

Will I be able to take only night courses, and will it be tough while working a full-time job? How many courses will I need to take, and how many years will it take me to finish?

Basically, can I get into medical school if I do a Post-Bac?

Sorry everyone, I know there have been similar threads in the past. But I just wanted to ask specifically about my GPAs, especially since I have a rather low BCPM GPA at 3.009. Also, I'm concerned about the difficulties of doing an evening Post-Bac with a full-time job. And of course, about wasting time and money with a Post-Bac that may not result in me getting into medical school.

If you want to go to an MD school, then a post-bac is mandatory. Your numbers are not competitive.

You ARE competitive for some, not all, DO schools,

Yes, but won't impress anyone

No
and does Psychology 101?

yes, if combined with a good( > 33) MCAT score.

Only you can answer that. Good time mgt is a crucial skill for success in medical school. A full time post-bac could reasonably be done in 1-2 years. Also, imagine a DIY program where you take, say, Anatomy, Biochem, Genetics, Micro, Immuno, Physiology and Biostats over the course of a two semesters, and ace everything. That should suffice.

Yes
